CC hits

I am admittedly impatient for hunt draws. After having drawn so many primo tags across the west it never gets old starting the planning and scheming for the next cool adventure just a soon as possible. Clearly not alone in this.
Would never use a credit card that did not immediately alert on pending authorizations for charges where a card was not physically present for that reason. Hard to imagine a card that does not have that feature available, other than comments each year on these threads where guys state their card has no way to alert them of pending charges as they happen.

Applying in so many states for so many species, also just great to sort out ASAP given the multi species for 7 states applying in each year.

In the past I just start calling my bank (or CC company) and ask them if there's any "pending" charges showing. They can tell me if there is and what the amount is. This year I used my Capital One card which I have an app on my phone for. It notifies me immediately if there's a pending charge. Saves me the trouble of calling my bank 6,748 times within a weeks period.

Yep Cabela's old card was several days behind before posting and would always have to call several times to find out the pending charges prior to posting. Once Cabela's went to Capital One they post immediately. Like stated before - purchase and before done fueling or leaving store parking lot already posted as a pending charge.

smokepoll, have you talked to your card company to ask what options may exist for immediate alerts for unattended pending authorizations?
Yeah, My wife has it on hers. I know I need to get it done. Not just for this type on thing (draw) but more for fraud....
Thanks.

A little birdie told me they aren't charging cards until the week before official results.... going to be several weeks of "I'm sure today is the day". This has potential to be the longest thread ever...;)

Is that why they locked down the card updating app? It’s this week.

I wonder how many people here would excitedly and unthinkingly give out their credit card numbers to a scammer with a spoofed phone number looking like the DWR number, saying their card was declined in the big game draw?

As long as they'd be willing to send me an email that said SUCCESSFUL... I wouldn't even care.

I don’t doubt there are people out there to take advantage of us dumb hunters…I just received a text from America First CU, providing me a link to follow because my account had been compromised and locked.
I don’t bank at America First…

I get that about once a week lol. I also don't bank with them.

So when do emails come out if they aren't charging first? I am not very patient, should be when I know I have a 99% chance of UNSUCCESSFUL.

Maybe we all need to show more gratitude for the increased anticipation and excitement! First they cut more than half the tags in my area after I apply. Then, they drag their feet posting the results. I love the way this helps increase the suspense of the situation. Maybe this is planned by DWR to help us enjoy the spring more! Thanks, DWR! Man, the 3-4 guys who draw the Pine Valley archery deer tag this year are going to be way more pumped than in years past!
At least it will not be crowded. Be almost like a limited entry just for dink bucks tho.

How did anyone manage before when it was all paper apps and waiting for the mail to show up to see if we drew? ??

Sherlock, that was back when you could buy a statewide deer permit for rifle, archery and muzzleloader. Of course muzzleloader was ball and cap. A lot less people lived in the state though and I-15 was a two lane road.

They used to have large billboards outside each division office where they would post hard copies the day of the drawing. Otherwise you waited for the tag in the mail. I can remember making sure I had business in Ogden those days so I could stop and check the print outs.
IMO that was good service that took effort there would actually be an employee to explain or help those that needed it.
Unfortunately the DWR has forgotten how to serve their customers in most aspects. How hard is it to hit a button and distribute emails.

Like prom night in High School...are you going to get lucky?

Another UNSUCCESSFUL.

We didn't have email back 40 years ago, she just told me in person.

At least I only had to wait a few hours to find out, but it didn't make it hurt any less.

Alright, just checked cc again. Figured out what the problem is: it must take longer for the CC info to travel through all those wires to get to the east coast ! Yea, that must be what it is ! It takes more time?

Anyone get a OIL hit yet?

Do they charge the same applicants card all at the same time if they drew multiple tags? Or do they do multiple hits for the same person at different times?

Sounds like they have done deer and elk. Pronghorn should be next then OIL. Anyone get a pronghorn hit yet?

Individually unless you put in as a group and it will be the total for the party.

I had plenty for deer. Actually enough for 2+ deer, so that was a given.

The LE elk is the big mystery. Not enough to be guaranteed, so I finally put in for a couple of hunts with better draw odds for us mere peons with 17 measly points. ?

We went to our local sporting goods store and bought a tag. It's not been that damn long since that was literally the way it worked. I could be wrong, but I have no memory of any paper apps. There was an internet before there were draws for general deer and elk tags. Apparently you either don't remember when we switched, or are too young to know, or are an out-of-stater.
