NEVADA DRAW DATE....???

Their web programmers may be selling us bunk info. This was from the shiny new NDOW web site.

How does the 2nd draw work?
Any leftover tags from the first draw will be available in the second draw. Unless something has changed, it works the same as the first draw, meaning you are subject to the same draw algorithm and your bonus points will be deducted if you are successful.

I can’t imagine there would be any leftover tags with the amount of people who submitted for tags last year. Just seems to increase every year

Despite the fact that there was a record number of applications submitted the past two years, there are almost always leftover tags. They're usually archery and/or junior tags for less-popular (low harvest rate) areas.

In the unlikely event that I draw something, I may need to use a different credit card than the one I applied with. I assume it's too late to change that on my application. If a credit card is declined will they call?

As long as you have an active card on file, then you're good. Just make sure to do this today or as soon as you can (before the 20th). They will not call if your card is declined.

Got it. I added another card to the payment methods on my account and set it as the default. Thanks guys. And good luck to everyone in the draw!

Jack Robb was on the Epic Outdoors podcast last week. He said that they wanted to try and do an earlier time this year so that people could get together for the results. Its a great pod cast and it seems like the Nevada DFW just gets it. They appreciate hunters. I wish all states where proactive like them.
Agreed! He’s one of the best guests they have on. They get it! I really enjoyed the part of issuing the sheep tag to the military guy that had to turn in the one he drew 12 yrs ago because he got deployed

Yeah and that’s the first sheep tag that’s been available in the Rubies since the die off which was the same year the guy was deployed. I’m guessing he was pretty surprised when he got the call and it’s a cool thing for NDOW to honor the commitment and honor our armed service members!

Just got email from Nevada
Said they are conducting draw now, and to watch email in next couple of days.

Will we get email before or after they post it on their website?

Results this Friday May 20th at 6 pm. Also you have one week to pay for tag. After that you lose tag, bonus points, and if the tag is a waiting period tag you go on waiting list before you can put in again

So they don’t automatically charge your card anymore ?

Latest info is they are calculating the sheep draw right now. It will take the longest (due to average number of points for each applicant).

There is a possibility credit cards will get hit tonight. You may also find out via your account (or via emai) whether you drew a tag or not.

Confirmed by Kalkomey just now - you will have up to 7 days after the draw is posted to ensure that you have a valid (default) credit card on file. They will charge whatever card is on file on Friday, and should that fail, they will try again during that 7 day window.

Beyond that, you will lose the tag and any associated points.

Draw calculations are done (actual results will be posted/released later). Good luck, guys

Sounds good.
What did you mean by averaging individual points?
“It will take the longest (due to average number of points for each applicant).”

They square each applications points then add 1. You are then assigned a random number for each point. They keep your lowest random number. If there are 3 tags, they are awarded to the lowest 3 numbers.

It's fun to pull up a random number generator from 1 to 9,300,000 and go through the draws you put in for in order with points and see what you get. I've done it a few times and I almost always get a tag but not every time. (Once I might have drawn a Rocky Bighorn tag as I drew .002% low number but even that's probably not low enough lol)
...........yes, I'm bored.

Iddogguy nailed the process. The reason why it took the longest is because those who apply for sheep tags typically come in with 20+ points or so. Each point requires additional time to calculate the lowest number (using their algorithm) versus other species like mule deer doe tags where you are looking at a typical accumulated max of about 2-3 points.

I don't see how you can figure realistic draw odds for hunts in NV, where you get your first available choice out of five choices. I guess that they are noticably worse than it appears for the hunts with the longest draw odds and many times worse for hunts that appear to have better draw odds.

I think if you go to bonus points section and divide number of tags by the unique applicant total that gives you a reasonable draw odd. The "draw rate" isn't accurate at all. It's less than 1/4 of that %.

It's all about the random number you roll for each point. That's it. If you don't roll a low number you're not getting a tag usually.

In the end, it's the applicant with the lowest number generated by the algorithm who will end up with the tag. This means that someone with no points can still win a tag versus another applicant with 20 points.

Points give you opportunities to continue trying to get the lowest number possible for any given draw.

Thanks
That is how I thought they did it. The averaging part thru me off.
Thanks again.

Dang, congrats that is amazing. How many points for each? I am sitting on 22 Desert and 21 Cali.
I drew Cal. in 2010 with 11 points & Desert in Unit 263 in 2016 or 2017 with 17 points. I remember the Cal. in 2010 because I drew a Rocky in Montana the same year.

Last night I changed my card in my daughters and my accounts.

I logged in to my bank account to balance my book this morning.
I am showing two pending 0.00 charges plus two pending 0.00 google charges.

I am not sure of there was a temp authorization for the card to verify it, and it saved it in the phone or what.

Maybe just me getting excited.

Maybe someone sitting at the gas station retrieved your CC number after you used it at the pump. I doubt NV would test the card first. Never heard of that...sounds fishy to me. I'd make a phone call and find out who is testing your card. Good luck.....

After looking into it a bit more with the dates, I am pretty sure it was me changing it, as the number also stored in my phone as normal, so when I did the ccv verification it did the test. I did not have that card stored in my phone until yesterday.

I haven't used that card for quite some time at the pump. I only have it on file at my pharmacy.

Let’s be honest here… How many of you have already been stabbing the refresh button and checking your credit cards for hits? I’ll admit it, I’ve done it more than once already haha.

Good luck everyone!!!

From the start of midnight madness I had set a notification when there is a withdrawal from my bank >$30. My bank notification tone is the same as low battery and software update on my watch, which both happened yesterday. The second time I heard the ding my heart was racing but quickly disappointed when I looked to see it was only an update will happen tonight while it’s charging. ?

After midnight madness last year, I was half expecting the cards to hit over night and the results to post this evening.

Nevada hasn’t hit cards before posting results in at least 10 years and it‘s probably been longer than that. Since Kalkomey took over it seems like we all get emails before anything else so I’m not even sure checking your account on the site will help find out early. With that you can all skip checking for credit card hits and refreshing the site and focus on updating your email “send/receive” function. You‘re welcome! Oh and good luck and check whatever you want….

Didn’t NV get in some some sort of trouble for hitting cards before posting results ?

I don’t think so, I think it was a game commission decision to post results first then charge cards to give people a chance to update cards and verify they had funds. At least that’s what I remember my dad telling me 15-20 years ago when he served on the county game board. That was a long time ago though and I’m getting close to the age he was when he served so I could easily be remembering it wrong.

I drew a tag in 2019 and my phone buzzed with the card hit at midnight NV time right on the nose. They didn’t actually populate draw odds until about 2.5 hrs later. I know this because I laid there in the middle of the night refreshing my phone every 30 seconds until they finally populated the results.

Same here. I didn’t know if I was elk hunting or sheep hunting. Then a little later I got another ding for a deer tag. Results followed a bit later.

Upon further reflection I’ll readily admit I’m not qualified to comment on what happens in my home state of NV since I’ve only drawn two tags since 2014 and none for 2 years and I bow hunt and apply for “easier” to get tags…. That said I’m eligible for everything and I’ve got 17 different live applications in this year if I include PIW and Silver State applications and in excess of 25 points for some of those so I should get a tag of some sort this year one would think, right?

Best of luck to you!!!!! I don't envy anyone that has to draw a tag to be able to hunt big game in their home state!

According to Kalkomey there were less applicants this year but more applications for individual species. I believe he said the highest ever. Between that and the tag cuts there are going to be a lot of disappointed folks when e-mails start rolling in. Either way, good luck.

Probably from everyone going all in on every species. I normally play it safe, but this year I applied for everything.

Agreed - residents can apply for 5 elk tags, 4 sheep tags, 2 each of deer an antelope, plus bear, goat, if my math is right, that's up to 15 apps per person.

I had 6 apps in and my daughter did 8, 2 of which were bonus points due to scheduling issues (Bull elk and bear).

I can't imagine putting in 15 apps!

I applied for 10 different tags not counting the Silver State tags. So I’m in for 13. Lol

23 apps. I think that is max and it was about $400.

Points only on doe deer and doe antelope. Guess I just want to show up on a draw report someday for a 30 point doe tag.

Very interested to see success on 1 horned rams…..they seem to be easyto find when not looking for them…
