Humidity levels and wind aren’t helping matters at all. Sad thing is one of these fires was a prescribed burn that got out of hand.

This was near Mora a few days ago. Heading out of control toward Sippapu as we speak.

My daughter lives in vadito, just down from Sipapu and they were put on "ready" standby on Sunday. They told her to start packing up and most likely be ready to be under mandatory evacuation sometime this week given the wind forecast. A lot of good friends have lost their homes in the Mora area.

Update at 1:12pm, just got call from daughter, vadito is now on "Set" and getting ready to evacuate. Winds shifted hard and fire is headed their way. They're being told to leave if they can. View from Vadito area now

Prayers for all the people in the fires path and everyone fighting it. Get your stuff packed up and be ready to go. I’ve been through it a few times. I had a friend who wouldn’t leave his place during a wildfire, he barley made it out the night the fire came down the canyon and burnt everything he owned to the ground.

cant remember a windier April and may. Normally it lightens up a little by April. Can expect it to be windy in Feb and march.

Just a thought. When is NM going to wake up and fire the entire Forest Service (at least the Santa Fe and Lincoln in a 10yr. trial run) and hire the Mescalero Nation to actually manage the national forests?

US Forest service controls forest not NM government, can’t throw stones at them. But Mescalero is an excellent example of good management.

I lived through fires and had close relatives lose their houses, It is ruff. I feel for the folks who have had their houses and or barns burned by these fires.

Every time I ride up into the forest and see how much of a train wreck it is, blow downs every where, big burn scars with a million burnt trees laying all over the place you can’t hardly ride a horse through it I wonder if the tree hugging environmentalist are proud of the mess some of the National forest have become.
Thank a democrat next time you see one.

That would be hard to swallow but like you said it could have been worse. The best thing is none of you got hurt. Hang in there.

Yeah glad your house made it!!

My hunting area got torched yesterday in the Black fire, Hope for a monsoon cuz these fires probably ain’t going out until it rains. Ok for wilderness to burn but forest service never goes in and reworks the trails so kind of loose that forever. The mess of deadfall’s to come is down right scary when your riding through them
