Paramount Muzzle Brake Comparison

Does anyone have any info, experience, or data on the performance of the different muzzle brakes for the CVA Pramount muzzle loader? I only know of three brakes made for the Paramount; the factory CVA brake, the one by Anarchy Outdoors and one by Arrowhead. I am sure the CVA brake is fine, but that thing is huge. Anyways, any experience or advice you can send my way would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Gila-I was wondering the same thing and I will be able to give you a decent answer in the next month or so. I was inclined to go with the CVA as well, but that brake looks like a brick!! I will be in Ely getting mine set up next month and I can give you better info afterwards.

I went ahead and bought an Anarchy muzzle brake. It has been quite a chore to find Blackhorn 209 powder and match primers. I will get everything put together this weekend, and hopefully chuck some lead to try it out.

Interested to hear how ya do! Yes, it's dang hard to find those right now. Has to iron itself sooner or later.

I have found purchased/ordered all I need...powder, primers, scope, base, rings, powder scale, charge tubes, etc. Hopefully I can find a range day as soon as it all arrives in the mail!

Here’s mine

Looks sharp Trix! That's the CVA brake, correct? Gila-were you able to find Blackhorn powder and primers?? Mine is the Colorado version and will only be used for Colorado and my home state of Nevada (iron sights only). Went with a totally different system for Utah, NM and AZ. Please let me know what ya guys find out after shooting.

I finally found some Blackhorn 209 on Cabela's website, and found large rifle benchrest primers at Brownell's....both were very costly! So now I just have to wait for the primer's to show up so I can go shoot!!!

Man I am glad you found some Blackhorn! I am on every waiting list I could find. Sportsmans Warehouse has quite a few California locations that have it in stock (according to their web site), and plenty of stores in Idaho and etc. I have 2 full cans left and then it's over.

It was quite a search for me....I talked to Hodgdon who bought out the company who makes Blackhorn 209, and they said there should be a big shipment to vendors around May. I have yet to shoot my new Paramount rifle, but hope to soon. I paid like $190 for 1000 large rifle benchrest primers from Brownells, then a few days later found the same primers at a local gunshop for $109.50 for 1000.

I shot my Paramount last weekend for the first time. It is super-awesome and very accurate! Shot a nice group at 200yards.

Let us know how it feels. Our 300-win mag was set up by the same guy in Ely we have always used, and it kicks no more than our 243. Our new 50. cal Paramount (with muzz brake) still kicks like a mule, but we are using a 330-grain bullet with 110 Blackhorn (weight but volume closer to 130). Shot it off the lead/sled as well and then shoulder-felt the same. Heavy ass gun but still has quite a kick. What shocked me was--my last bullet went down the barrel just as easy as the first using Blackhorn. When we cleaned the barrel, it was still almost clean. Blackhorn is hard to come by, but I can't imagine using anything else now. Spoiled!!
