Count ‘em

Numbers guys are right, score does matter…

If you’re full of insecurities.

Big trucks matter…

If you gotta compensate for something else.

Expensive gear matters…

If you take a lot of field pics of yourself.

LR brag shots matter…

If you have a place to be worshipped.

I was once told by a member that I can't count animals that I have guided, but in 20+ years I am "responsible" for a lot of bulls from 300 to 420.

Me personally......just pisscutters.

I don't approach this question as a measuring tool for who is the best hunter etc. I see it as a reality check. The opportunity to hold a tag for branch antlered bulls are very rare. I've said it before, but people's expectations get skewed waiting x amount of years to finally hunt.

A tag is not a right of passage, it's merely an opportunity.

Never measure your success in inches.

I have 2:

Elk just aren't my bag, but there's so many of them these days I just have to take advantage of what's abundant.

Never did care much about killing big ones, but when you shoot 80 of them, bound to kill a couple decent bulls.

One, kind of. Green score 350 2/8” broken, bigger if clean. After dying period. 347 7/8” gross 341” net. He is my favorite bull, not because he is my best but because he was on a Utah OTC public land any bull muzzleloader tag. To your point, drawing a great tag does not guarantee you a bull over 350”. If that was the case I would have a few more. General tags have been the best for me over the years compared to draw tags but any tag in my pocket is another memory. Have fun.

I have 12 bulls 6point or better but none over 350. Never a bull between a spike and 6, have always wanted to shoot a 5point but all I can find is bigger?

Anybody says size don't matter has only shot raghorns.

And I will add 2 more this year.
5point.

Not 350. ?. But a fantastic trip/hunt!! Great camaraderie!!
I’ve noticed that trophy hunters tend to be loners, it’s all about them, and mine is bigger than yours people. They immediately measure any game they shoot or fish they catch. In their world success is size.

Hunted bull elk once and didn't hit the 350 mark but he is big to me and I had a hunt of a lifetime.
It's fine to measure antlers if that's what you are in to. I have a few 150-160'ish bucks that I really love. One of these days, when I am bored, I'll grab a tape and find out exactly what they score. They're the biggest bucks I have shot but I am not big on scores.

I’ve never laid a tape on an animal I harvested

I hunt for the experience and meat. If it has the “wow” factor, I’ll shoot and admire it for what it is. Not what man compares it to.

Let me know how that crow tastes.

2, but I'm totally over the inches thing as I get older. Make memories as we are not guaranteed tomorrow. That's why I burned a bunch of points to draw a Utah Premium Tag that gives me mucho time in the woods chasing them. Can't wait.
