My buddy had this tag last year, I got 2 cents to share if someone has a tag.

My favorite hunts are because they were with friends and family not just because "I got one".

PM sent. I am applying for this unit and have some ideas on where to start, but would greatly appreciate any info you could share.

Thanks!

I'm considering applying for this hunt. It seems that the sheer vastness of the wilderness could grow an old Ram.
Can this hunt be done by backpacking into the wilderness from a trailhead?

Airo,
You had a pretty eventful hunting season.
Didn't you hunt mountain goat the same year your buddy drew the sheep tag?

Ok so here's the deal. This unit is a difficult at best Sheep unit. According to the Bio they hand out 12 tags in hopes of harvesting one or two rams. We floated the river and it was alot of fun but fairly un productive. Inside our hunt boundary we seen just a handful of sheep and one 2yr old ram. As if that wasnt bad enough we never seen a Deer or an Elk lower that Pistol creek. we did encounter and harvest a Bear on the trip and there was alot of bear sign so that could be something worthwhile down the road. I think unless you live near the unit and can either hunt with stock or float the river multiple times for scouting it's a waste of time.

We floated the first week of Sept. The water was considered very low and possibly too low. The first day we did 28 miles and it was pretty rough going for most of it but then it got better. I will say my buddy who had the tag was very good on the oars and that certainly made things easier on the boat!

Unit 27-1 is the most personally gratifying hunts anyone can go on. I personally spent 20 days in 2010 in there after a ram. 43 sheep spotted with only 3 rams and just the one shooter. It was a 12 mile backpack trip in from a airstrip so every bit was hard earned. Here is a pic of my ram and for any particulars you can PM me.

Congrats on the ram, what an accomplishment. Is that Pungo mt. in the back ground?

Hi folks, first time posting here after lurking for quite a while. Good to finally be part of the group and maybe have something useful to contribute.

I drew this tag for 2014 and I am looking for any info that you folks are willing to give out. I have been told, and read, how hard this hunt is. Still wondering what the hell I got myself into.

Thanks in advance for any info shared. Please PM if you want.

>Have to be about half crazy
>and a mental beast!! Good
>luck, not much sheep in
>enormous country...

Depending on who you talk to, they may say I am more than half crazy.

Knew going in to the draw, that it would be a challenge both mentally and physically. Now I just have to put it all together and get it done.

RPOutside, your not half crazy, your just in for an adventure. I don't mind helping anyone who has a 27-1 tag in their pocket. I hunted this unit in 09. Give me a call 208-993-1402. I live in Salmon and know we're multiple sheep have been killed in this unit.
