Info on deer hunting in 051

I have been in Nevada since 1972 never hunted 051 before hunted lots of other areas was surprised by the 20 questions i understand some of your reluctance but just was looking for general info not your secret spot Thank you

I would look closely at the area between Winnemucca and McDermitt. Focusing on the east side of the highway could pay off big. Deer prefer high ridges and low valleys in this area as well as timbered and bare places. They can be a long way from you or really close. This is where magnified lenses will be needed or not needed. Hope this helps!

I will be hunting antelope there the first week of August. Send me a PM and I will share any info with you that I get, I'm not totally sure I will be hunting the best places for deer but plan on spending a lot of time behind glass and will let you know if I see any nice bucks.

Don't apologize. It's a hunting site, but some folks have made it their facebook.

I have spent time in the Santa Rosas during the summer, scouting, and have hunted during archery season with some success. Finding a big buck is tough--even before the crowd arrives in October. One of the problems you will face is escaping the ATVs. There are roads and trails all over, and the place get hammered. Some folks just don't have the sense not to drive through the areas they hope to hunt, and the deer pretty quickly burrow down into the thickets and remain there all day. You may escape some of the pressure by hiking into the wilderness. With a rifle, you can shoot across some of the narrower canyons. I would concentrate on those with mahogany thickets since the aspen are typically just too thick. As with many places, the locations with the most does seem to have the fewest bucks. Most of your activity will be crack of dawn or dusk, so spending the night on the mountain is a good idea. It is beautiful country. Enjoy your hunt.
