Hey guys! My buddies son drew this year on his first year applying.
Looking for any info on places to stay, areas/trails to checkout.
Any help greatly appreciated!
 
Great hunt for the kids. Swamped with a lot of personal stuff right now. If you PM your number I will call when life settles down, or I catch a break. Heck, I might even be able to coincide a visit to my parents to help them and help in the hunt.

Don’t shoot the 1st you see. If it was me and my kids we would go up a week earlier and take a look at everything. Enjoy just getting to be around all the wildlife. Bring a fishing pole and a shotgun and chase some birds during the week before the hunt. It’s really pretty much a slam dunk. Great tag to have and there really aren’t any secret spots unless you have a kid that will really rough it. If that’s the case you have a few options
 
Daughter’s hunt from 2010. Shows some of the bucks in the area. Need to remember that this is THEIR hunt. Encourage them to get one of the better bucks, but don’t push them. Make it enjoyable and make memories. Way bigger bucks to be had if willing to eat the tag and run your kid ragged. But that’s not the purpose of these hunts in my opinion.

Had a great time scouting and taking my Daughter on her junior hunt. The warm weather and the snow level high up on the Sierra Mountains made it a tough hunt to find large bucks during the second week. It would of been nice to have made it for the first week of season but due to her school...

My son and a nephew got the tags several years ago. I go up almost every year just to look at the wildlife. The numbers have dropped off quite a bit, but it is still a fun hunt. Really aren't any "Honey Holes", as you hunt mostly the valley. You can venture up Mount Tom a bit, but it can be tough on a youngster. Pick a hotel in Bishop, since your hunting grounds are 10-15 minutes North of the town. Bring a good pair of bino's and a spotting scope. Have your son practice out to 300 yards. You guys are going to have a lot of fun! I'll PM some info in the near future.

Rovana Has a large population of Buck's during this hunt, but they really are everywhere. If you have time, wait it out, you'll always be able to harvest the caliber of bucks you see the first day. Below is a buck my nephew took last year on the second day. We didn't have the whole season to hunt and we spotted this buck up high the week before. He's a bit crab clawed, but super heavy and 29" wide. Unfortunately he broke off one of his 4ths and a cheater in the last week before the season started. Good Luck

Congratulations to all those kids. Very impressive. I would have to agree that this might be the best hunt in the state. I did not see anything remotely close to these deer on my G3 hunt and a lot of people in G3 didn't either. The interesting thing is that this zone is only approximately 50 miles north of Independence. Any, I'm happy for all of them

I dont think he is scared...just doing it out of respect. My daughter's buck from this year is on there. 28 inch, 3 point.

Those memories we made on that hunt will definitely last a lifetime.

The photos are all of minors….not adults. Not my place to show someone else’s child on the internet. Post was intended to just show the caliber of bucks taken during this special hunt
