67-2 Moose

Well like most, this is my first and hopefully last moose tag here in Idaho. I’ve only hunted them once 20-25 years ago when my dad drew a tag by Dubois (think I was 10-12 years old lol).

What I’m looking for is maybe a few pointers, tips/ tricks, best times to chase the long legged things, and maybe a good drainage or mountain to check out.
Definitely going to be learning the country but will be limited as the unit is on the other side of the state for me and fuel prices are just wonderful.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I had a tag in a buddy and I both had tags in 67-1 last year. That’s just across the road from you. From what we experienced the rut was about the last week of Sept-first week of Octoberish. Then the bulls vanished till that first week in November and the cows that didn’t get bred cycled again. Glass glass glass and it’s amazing how fast an animal of that size can vanish
Good luck!

Thank you Elkoholic! Glassing is one thing that I’m kinda decent at lol.
How did your hunt turn out?

Deepcolor, that’s good, I just watched that not very long ago on the tele and was curious if it was my area. Guess I better plan on bringing something with tracks.

Both are amazing bulls!

What size/ make of game bags did you use?
I’ve been running TAG bags for elk and deer for years.

Thanks GS! For the bags both of us got the Argali moose bags. They were awesome. Great breathability, roomy, and strong as heck. Make sure and pack bear spray or iron, whichever you choose. We packed 10mm and spray. Probably overkill but better safe than sorry. Thankfully we didn’t have any bear encounters but we saw them and sign as well. One guy we bumped into had been over in 67-2 elk hunting and claimed to have seen griz..
