Thousands of cattle

Died of a supposedly heat wave in western Kansas. Like meat prices aren't high enough already. It seems like more bad news than good news these days.

Who buys meat in a store?

Pretty tough to say you're a hunter when you do something like that.

This is a nothing burger...pun there.

How’s the bison holding up………. from somewhere in the recesses of time, they used to thrive in the Great American Desert. Imagine that.

Nah, like eel stated in the OP-"died of supposedly". There will be more to this story. Cattle do fine here in Southern Nevada when it's 115 plus degrees (no humidity). Our cattle did just fine in Oklahoma in 110 degrees with humidity through the roof-80% and up. The libs will be happy about this though-3K head of cattle farting (methane) will help stop the climate change. I aint buying it.

There are tons of feed lots in Western Kansas, 10k is certainly a lot, but a small percentage of the total.

From what I have heard it was between 2-3K which is a massive loss for the rancher. Still, doesn't add up though. Just wait and we will find out what really happened.

It's Putin's fault....wasn't the heat, that much for sure. Joe I hope your correct that we will find out true cause but I'm not so sure.

It does seem kind of odd. Sure, some could die to heat but that seems excessive. Maybe some neglect somewhere along the line.

One thing for sure, I can't afford the gas to go hunting and not bring back some meat this year. Pisscutters take note.

I’m sure the Russians are slowly but surely messing with us….Our sanctions on them….Their destruction on our food supply….among other things. It’s being covered up as “heat stress” to keep the country from panicking…

Well, I do stand corrected. I was wrong and jumped too quick on this. First thing that crossed my mind was fraud (which happens a lot with livestock) or neglect and it was neither. $4 million loss so far. All around bad situation.

Nugget wants to know if you all could send some cows to AK to eat some of this grass

Empty water troughs? Agree with above, 3k-10k cattle is a drop in the bucket for the overall market, but unfortunately could be devastating for that farm and employees. Almost guaranteed they had insurance, but getting that money from Mr Banker is a different story.

Thinking the brainiacs could have autopsed a few by now ..... im betting 10/1 we never know as they don't want us to know. Putins experimental killing machine.

I bet 10/1 to one big MONEY, America, Europe, All of NATO.
That They want us to know?

Exactly what they are telling US.

Servehim, do you see Putin as a killing capacitor, any more than the USG?
Why can a 18 year old get a 100,000$ student loan, yet a 18 yr can’t get a 10,000$ small business loan.

Man the writing is on wall.

These are acts of man, and said men are not Putin.

My comment on Putin was partially in Jest sir, our POTUS blames everything on him so im just following his lead .
Mixing apples to oranges regarding an 18 yr ago advancing there education verse having the experience of a few years in opening up a business. Pretty sure you know that, thinking you just want to argue.

And I'll also add , if you think there is ANY comparison between the USA interventions in our attempt to give others freedom and Russia attempt to concur and hold others nations for their own gain ..you're challenged. Just the facts MA'AM

Batchits don't get to decide who's crazy.

You think Trump won the election and you believe in talking snakes. nuff said.

Thanks, Nemont.

“The perfect storm. We had a rain event, actually, several days of rain (which) created some high humidity in a typically very arid environment,” he said.

This was followed by a sharp spike in temperatures to 100-plus degrees with excessive humidity and no wind. It created conditions that overwhelmed. Dr. Lindberg said overnight temperatures didn’t dip low enough to help.

“Nighttime lows that didn’t get very low. And that’s when cattle and animals are able to dissipate that thermal load from the previous and when they can’t dissipate that thermal heat load, then it just continues to build,” he said.

He said cattle are resilient animals, but abruptly going from cool temperatures to extreme heat, there was no time for acclimation.

I work in a feedyard, about an hour or so from where the worst was. Was not a good situation, very little can be done in weather situations like this. Southwest Kansas and no wind for better part of 2 days, 100+ temps and much higher humidity than normal made it miserable for animals & people.

I originally thought something similar as well or even brucellosis which happens in the Midwest, and we dealt with it as well but that never took out these many cattle. 3K in one feed lot! Southwest Kansas has ideal temps for feedlots, but the weather did not cooperate. High temps, high humidity (uncommon around there) and nighttime temps never went low enough for the cattle to cool down. Sucks, and major loss!!
