Nevada (Ruby Mountains)

I've been doing a lot of research on Nevada Unit 101-108. I've hunted it several times before including a late archery hunt last year. During that hunt I saw the quality in the unit. The problem is that I've always hunted the late season. This year I have the early rifle tag. The quality bucks I saw last year were migrants out of the East Humboldt Range. The access in the East Humboldt range in very limited. I've narrowed my search to one area of the East Humboldts and one area of the Rubys. I'm not looking for anyone's hotspot, I just want information on the difference in quality between the two areas. Since the Humboldts are so hard to access, I though the quality would be better. The biologist tried to talk me into the Rubys, saying that since the "92" winter the Rubys are producing better bucks. Any suggestions wuold be appreciated.

I know your hunt started saturday, but if I'm not to late PM me and I might be able to help. I have taken good bucks out of both ranges. I have the late archery hunt for the same area this year.Good luck on your hunt.

Hey, I am currently 20 yo full time/part time job. I got a early season archery tag in the rubys I’m pretty excited. I plan on hunting on the east humboldt side but not sure exactly where to find seclusion and decent deer. I am a self taught bow hunter and very new to hunting ie this will be my first archery deer hunt. Terrain and distance won’t be an issue, im in excellent shape to pack in deep. Im not looking for any exact spots per say, im just looking for advice on how to hunt the area well?
Thanks, Spencer

lol...That mouth didn't get you many help responses....did it?
20 year old with a purrrrrty mouth. Maybe he wants another part time job. Saw a tranny on Cops yesterday offering up $20 BJs

A couple months of hard work and he can hire a guide.

Why do you care?
Do you go to the gym on a regular basis? I ask because if you’ve spent any time at the gym you see a lot of new comers around the first of the year. Usually all the newbies are gone around January 15th give or take a week then it’s back to all the regulars. This site is just like that around tag draws time. The regulars just laugh, maybe help, maybe not.

I thought, I might report back on my hunt.
I hunted the north end of area 10, started packing in on Aug 6th in hopes of finding deer before the opener. At about 7 miles in, I could not find any bucks unfortunately and trails were extremely difficult to navigate at times. However I saw many sheep, goats, and does in a large basin. After a few days in there, I decided I wanted to try a few basin back towards the trail head. The next morning I glassed up the basin I camped in, and saw no deer just more goats and sheep. That afternoon hiked up the entire basin to the west side of the mountain, right when I came over the ridge about 150 yards in front of me bedded in a couple trees were about 20-25 bucks. Unfortunately the wind was bad and they also spooked right away. they ran about 900 yards on the the other side of the basin. I did confirm to see many 2x2, 3x3, and at least 1 4x4. I could not see every buck though, but for sure at least 4 of them were mature. And I estimated that the 1 4x4 I saw was probably a 165 type of deer. They all split up in groups of 3-5 after that. Opening morning and the following two days I spent in that basin I did not see any deer except for does, it seems I bumped them out of there. I spent my last couple of days back on the east side and put a stalk on a lone spike buck, luckily got to 4 yards of him bedded but passed. It was amazing to get that close, and sit there for more than an hour of watching him.
That evening was the end of my 8 day adventure:)
