Every year I complain about my lack of luck in drawing a tag. Well, this year it changed. With 4 points I drew a Manti Archery bull permit!!! I was ecstatic. I have never hunted the unit, but so excited to have a tag and making plans.

My second son received his mission call to leave August 29th with home MTC until September 14th. I really enjoyed the time with my oldest son during his home MTC. I don't want to miss time with him for what will likely be his last few weeks at home as he plans to go to college as soon as he returns. But my desire to hunt won out and I scheduled time off work and planned 10 days I could be hunting and still be home with him.

Well last night my daughter came home with a ring on her finger and plans to get married the first week of September. Stuck a fork in those hunting plans. :) Couldn't be happier for her. Too much going on and I don't want to miss out on family time.

First time I have ever had to turn a tag in.. :( Hopefully I'll draw the tag again in the next 5 years. Good luck to whomever gets a call from DWR. I do love elk hunting, but nothing beats being with family. The pain is a bit less as my son drew an Idaho Unit 45 December bull tag!!

Wow-that is a tough one when you drew with only 4 points, but you did the right thing. Family should always be top priority and these are big events that won't happen again (at least hopefully on the wedding :ROFLMAO: )

I am guessing you will draw that archery tag again anyway in the next 4-6 years for sure and maybe sooner if luck shines on you, so hopefully your wait is not too long!

Ouch!
Ya, I had to quit on a tag (shot a lesser bull than I really wanted) because I had to be back for a daughter's wedding.

I'm a strong proponent of "family first" but you'd think they would help a little with the work-around on the calendar.... but NO. LOL

If you're young enough, waiting 5-10 years is not a big deal but at my age.... they better be rescheduling the wedding because I'm hunting while I'm vertical. :)

Tell your daughter you’ll make it to her next wedding…

I'll tell you what's going to happen... You're going to turn in the tag, and then your daughter will push back her wedding to October... I'd wait until the last week you can turn it in before actually doing it.

And I have to second the suggestion to give your soon-to-be son-in-law a talking to. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

If I drew with only four points, I’d keep the tag and turn both kids in instead.
J/K, you did the right thing and I believe good things happen to good people. You might just luck into that tag next year.

In all honesty, if similar numbers put in each year, you'll be into the bonus tags in 4 years... really high chance in 5, and guaranteed draw in 6. And you could get lucky before that... So, if that sounds good to you...

Love the replies. ??

I am 47. I figure if I keep this one my next tag I will be 63. Old, but doable. Turing in I likely won’t draw for 5 years. Makes me 52 and then 17 till I can draw again makes me 69. Probably too old for a bow hunt then:(

I’ll likely hold onto it for another week till wedding venue is booked. Be a shame to have this tag and only spend 4-5 days scouting and hunting so most likely turn in, but I keep wanting to keep the tag. :)
