Howdy! I’m looking to take on Utah this year with a multi season any bull tag. I’ve solo backcountry hunted most of my life but have yet to set foot in utah. I’ve taken bulls in Idaho, Montana and a 61inch moose solo in alaska last year. I’m just diving into mapping and plotting. Any experience great or bad would be greatly appreciated. Thinking north or south slope to start.

South slope gets a ton of pressure, but there are some good areas to get away from the roads. North slope has less roads so less pressure but it is super remote and most go on horseback.

Thanks bud. Thats the plan, probably hoof it deep or horseback. Have you had seasons in the north? Anywhere now is hammered with people

I'm from Texas so it's a bit tough for this. I found some pockets on the north and south slopes i want to venture into, but if i get a bull down the spoilage is what i'm worried about.

Yeah there is that aspect. I had a bull down during archery a few years ago hot as hell and managed over a river flow. Are you heading in this year?

I hunt the North.

If you are thinking backpack, then archery. But to be away from people, you will be in a ways, and by yourself, you're bound to lose an elk to rot.

By rifle season, odds are pretty good you'll be facing sub freezing and snow measured in feet.

Low, low success rates though, beautiful country
