Oppressive heat

94° here. I know many parts of the country are much hotter. Idaho Falls used to be ok without central air. This house doesn't have Central so we have a couple portable 12,000 btu ACs Maybe the bedroom unit is 8 or 10k btu ??. Not cutting it for me. Must be time to get a bigger unit in place of one of them but don't have 220v outlet for it. The next option is selling. Maybe so , I'm sure not liking it.
When I moved here most people didn't have central units and they just opened windows at night.
Our bedroom is above our garage and that doesn't help.
Anyone else have a warm home ?
I know why Nevada isn't my home. 90° in the morning, ..whew

If you had the texas heat right now you'd stick a pistol in your mouth and get on the expressway to hell for a little relief.

Selling? You ever look into mini-splits? Lot less energy usage and most are heat pump AND a/c without the ductwork.

Headed to Austin this week for a family reunion. 103-105. 30 degrees warmer than last week at the cabin. It’s possible that the 8000 ft difference in elevation might make a difference

I hear you Idaho is a little warm right now. Fixing to take the wife and dogs for a dip in Snake river this afternoon.

I live in Vegas too. I got up at 4AM a few days ago & it was 94 degrees before the sun came up. I work in hot environments & the older I get, the more I truly hate the heat.
Every summer for the past 37 years since I moved to Phoenix, I say "THIS is the last summer I live in this freaking oven!" But then winter comes, and I see family suffering through -40 wind chills, and I forget alllll about it. Guess that's why there are snowbirds...

Yea, NV heat is awesome.

I have two window mounted swamp coolers and a third portable cooler. It stays comfortable.

For the window mounted coolers, I built a 4x6 shed, with an open front for each one. There is a slight air gap to let some of the hot air escape. Lag bolts into studs help keep it secured to the framing. Then I used 2" of insulate foam, shiny side out, to reflect more heat away from the cooler. Works pretty good.

I was stationed at China Lake 21 years ago. I remember coming home from field ops at 0130 with temps above 100.

So what temperature do you guys run your A/C? My wife likes it around 78 but my comfort level is more around 75. So I'm constantly turning it down when she's not looking.lol

I hear ya… You definitely have it worse there in Phoenix vs Vegas. Both suck though. Lol

My wife keeps the thermostat on 78. Only because we live in Vegas & she is far more frugal than I am. I would keep it on 65 personally, even knowing I would probably burn up a unit every 3 years or so. Lol

I totally represent that. But blue- you broke a streak of 22 comments without bringing in a single politically correct/incorrect comment. (Misogyny aside). I recant...

I hope you’re wrong about that……my intent has never been to string more than two innocuous posts together at any time.

I promise to up my hyperbole/sarcasm game (y)

We are keeping the AC set @ 73* here in central Texas, @ 105 outside it runs 24/7
can’t wait for fall to start in November, yes November it’s Texas ???

We keep it at 73 to 74. When I built my house in 2007 I said screw the air conditioning. It's Montana. Could of had it installed for 3K. Saved 3K I thought. Then she says... It's so hot. Doors and windows open. Bugs get in. Fast forward to 2021. After all the years of complaining, had air installed, cost 5K. Worth every penny, but won't tell her that. mtmuley

Damn. We keep ours at 65 at night and 70 during the day in Fredericksburg. Both my wife and I hate the heat, but she doesn’t want to leave the Hill Country. We rarely run the heater in the “winter”. We have gone several years without ever using it.

Cools down into the lower 60s most nights here, hit mid 40*s one night last week, saving grace being able to lock that cool air in before sun up. Had to help family on a metal roof in North Carolina couple weeks ago, that was brutal.

I hate to complain but this is the coldest summer I can ever remember. I can think of only a few days above 70 degrees here this year so far. The strawberries are growing and producing but they have very little flavor and as soon as they turn red they get moldy from the drippy fog. the zucchini plants would probably do better if the sun would come out too. I had my coat on splitting firewood this morning. The forecast is for highs in the low 60's all this week. The halibut fishing is getting good finally though.

I used the 2 hose portable I bought with foam adhesive strip to seal the window. It doesn't need air exchange with the inlet/outlet hoses .
It wasn't as hot today around 88° but it was set at 78 this morning and was 75 tonight in the room so I'm happy with it.

I used to live in IF, I do miss those cooler summer nights......I just don't miss the longer windy winters.

Well my evening just got interesting. It’s 104 here in Vegas at 9:19PM. Our power went out an hour ago so I pulled out my little Jackery generator to get some lighting going & a few fans. Praying the power comes on in the next few hours so I don’t have to switch gears to keep the freezers going.

warm night??

I couldn't live where it gets hot. If it's cold, I can put on a coat or even build a fire in the wood stove. If it gets hot, I'm screwed.
100-107 in Northern California Valley next 10 days, Hey Eel...remember the hotter it is in the valley the cooler you guys are on the coast.

104 in Palisade yesterday, that’s why we’re camped up on the Uncompahgre. Had to put a jacket on Last night.

That's true. The interior heat brings in the marine layer on the coast. At least the interior doesn't get quite as hot as it used to, generally speaking.

107 here in NorCal all week. Whirlpool makes a pretty good portable cooling unit.

warm night??
All was good… Fortunately the power came back on a little after 10 last night. We kept the doors closed, so it didn’t get too bad. I always worry about my freezers out in the garage when the power goes out. I know it’s a lot hotter out there.

Not complaining about it here but will soon be in the gates of hell AKA southern MS for my two weeks of military. Really dreading it, but two weeks after that it is time pack up for archery elk and head to hills !

That humidity in Southern MS is no joke. You will lose some weight during those 2 weeks. Good luck to ya down there & on your elk hunt.

110 this week here in saint geezus it’s hot!!
AC is set at 76 for us!

Brandon is going to address the heat tomorrow. I'm looking forward to no more sea level rise, tornadoes, hurricanes, heat, forest fires, floods or droughts.

That should be good. A bumbling fool trying to address something no human alive can control or have an impact on.

Wish the nites would cool off.
