^^^ I do need to see just how lucky I was to pull that off range tag I got this year.

Update - after looking, I should go buy a powerball ticket. With those "odds" you'd think I could pull a Valles Caldera first rifle hunt, almost a bighorn tag

Odds are getting so bad that I'm actually surprised that I was able to draw a tag again. Makes me question my sanity even wasting the application money on some of the more difficult applications.

I stopped hearing that about 8 years ago. Maybe %-wise it is flat (maybe), but popular culture has really embraced hunting. Meat Eater, Joe Rogan, survival shows, etc. talk about it and it's very accepted. No surprise more people are applying (and I'm getting fewer tags).

Everybody puts up to 10 entries into the pot, $50/entry, get randomized, lined up sequentially, and keep each hunter's lowest two numbers. All species (moose to sage grouse), units, weapon type tags are put in one giant pool, randomized, stacked up and assigned a sequential number from 1 to whatever. Put list A next to List B. Limit folks to a max of two tags a year and you get them in the order drawn.

You don't want to hunt the blow gun only swan tag in the Lehi Home Deport Parking Lot unit that you drew? Tough nuts, that's your tag.

Now that most of the outfitters offer the cheap 2-day hunts, the outfitter odds are almost as bad as the NR odds. It’s surprising that the outfitters like this loop hole law. I assume most of their clients are just buying the 2-day. Since the tag numbers don’t change, the outfitters are just screwing themselves out of money.

Except you're in the wrong state. We don't have moose, swan tags, or a Lehi Home Depot.
