Packer in the Bighorns

Looking for a packer that works the bighorns. Will be in 37 during the archery hunt

Excuse the high jack, but I too am looking for a packer. The few elk I have killed have a tendency to die in bad places far from the truck. My tag is for a unit 40 rifle hunt. I'm 67 and plan to hunt on my own. If successful, the option to utilize a packer (with pack string) to haul out a bull sounds like a golden Idea. Aren't they all permitted by the US Forest Service?

To perform packing services in Wyoming they have to be a licensed outfitter. They also have to have a special use permit from the USFS if it’s on the Forest.

Forest Service usually has an outfitter coordinator. Contact them and they can tell you who has permits to operate in the area you are going to be in.

Thanks. Ill try to figure out who that is for the area. I called the Sheridan Fish and Game Office and they were not very helpful.

Call again if you need more info then what the Forest service provides. They use to be very good there but I haven't talked to that office in 4-5 years and they were always helpful. That was before covid hit. In today's world they most likely have limited personnel. Ask to speak to someone with knowledge in that area if they have someone there.
