Exhaust system

I have a 2006 Pontiac G6 that isn’t a beater and has only 130k miles. It has a leak so I took it in. Got a quote for 1900.00 ?.
This includes front downpipe manifold, cat converter, exhaust pipe , resonator, muffler.
The Cat isn't rusted out nor has a hole in it. I think they want to make all the money they can. This car is what I use to get to work just a short 10 minute trip 4 times a week and I'm retiring in 2 or 3 years at which time I could sell it.
I don't have to replace the Cat for sure. Any ideas ? I'm going to try a couple more shops for quotes.

You would be smart if you took it to his Son because Gator doesn't know $hit about Cat's or exhaust systems that why he put someone with more brains in charge that business.

Now I can help ya with Metal Rv Covers ,Carports, Metal building, Metal decking, Steel Beams, Steel Purlins, ETC, Metal, Metal, Metal

They want to replace the entire exhaust system because of a leak? Find a different shop and fix the leak.
Yes they do. I guess they can make as much as possible but I'm not going to pay that kind of cash. You can get cheap converters but they don't last more than a few months then the check engine light comes on. Dang computers read everything. If a car is running rich and needs the Cat to work more the mileage drops.
This is just a work car and I don't care as long as it drives. The noise isn't real loud yet.

If the leak is in the exhaust pipe, either in front or behind the cat. converter, find your self a shade tree mechanic that would be willing to swap the pipe for a new one for a couple hundred bucks and you pay for the new exhaust pipe.

I had a friend die from carbon monoxide poisoning from a leaky exhaust so I wouldn't recommend not fixing it. In my state vehicles have to be inspected once a year and if the exhaust is leaking it won't pass.

But it depends on where is the leak? An independent muffler shop around here would replace the muffler and exhaust pipe behind the converter for about $200 to $300. (Nothing illegal about doing that) If the leak is in front of the converter that could be more of an issue. Some of that piping could be part of the converter and it couldn't be altered.

With the high price of used cars do you know where you can get a better one for $1,900? If not then maybe you need to fix the one you have.
