Thank You to the Residents Whoever You Are

If states want to be 90/10 thats up to them but the outfitters set asides need to stop. Wildlife should not be used to enrich one group of people.
Totally agree. Outfitter set aside is just a form of government welfare.
If states decide to do 90/10 I'm not going to fault them unless they take $1000's of dollars from hunters building up points and then pull a "bait and switch" on nonresidents.

It is very difficult for an outfitter in WY to make a living under the current system and can understand why they would like it. They get very few resident hunters and rely on NRs that draw. Its not a wellfare system they still have to work for the money. I have an outfitter friend that was counting on 5 elk clients he booked. They did not draw so he is out a large amount of money he would have made for the year. And its not only him but the guides he employed.

Sounds like your outfitter buddy doesn’t know how the draw works. Wal mart is hiring, he be ok.

He’s been in business for over 20 years I’m sure he knows how it works. I doubt he wants to work along side you at Walmart

20 years? Wow sounds like WY has been pretty good to him. What does he do the other 9 months of the year when there’s no hunting?

The outfitters around here are mostly booked 2 to 3 years out. For those that don't draw those spots quickly fill plus the outfitters always leave a spot or 2 open for an emergency. I can only speak for the outfitters I know around here but like I said they are booked out

They make more money on the summer pack trips. Plus a lot contract out to the forest service repairing some trails. Those contracts seem to disappear and the forest service seems to be doing more. Maybe @BuzzH can shed some light on that. We did the lower and upper greybull trail a few years ago plus a butt load of other trails that branched off.

Thanks to the residents out there that helped shut down the outfitter tags and in turn shut down 90/10. I appreciate it! I really wish my home state would reciprocate 80/20 for you. I think we would have better and more diverse hunting opportunities if all states offered 80/20 like Wyoming.
I'm thrilled to hear that. Mind telling how you heard it was shut down?

Well that is how it goes. He chose that career. It has it's up and downs. Sometimes real estate agents don't sell homes they have listed. Should we just force people to buy them so the real estate agent can make some money?

Isn’t raising special licenses to a rate most DIY hunters can’t afford. So in turn leaves those expensive tags for the outfitter clients to draw them. But I guess if we can afford it at least we can still put in for special. What’s the difference in what they were trying to do to make special draw for outfitter clients. So didn’t the outfitters get what they wanted?
But we got 80/20. So that’s a win.
I’m not trying to be a smart ass either.
Again thanks buzz and jm77. And other residents for all you do.
