Nice buck he'll make a super trophy when he turns grey and gets rid of the fuzzies on his antlers

True, but to be honest I'm hoping he keeps the velvet! I've never hunted deer in September before and I think it would be cool to have a velvet buck on the wall. It also adds the optical illusion of more mass

In this day and age, it's hard to imagine he hasn't been seen by someone else as well. He's a nice buck. I hope you do get a shot at him!

Quick story,
20 years ago my son and I found a great buck like yours. We called him Hat Trick because most years he was only a three point on one side, but he was always monster, high/heavy and 32" wide.
He lived about a mile off a well known mountain road but somehow few people seemed to know of him.
We were able to archery hunt this same buck 4 years in a row but somehow on every stalk bad luck always alerted him. (a badger, a coyote wandering through, an unseen two point, a sudden change of wind).
My son (then 15 years old) got one shot and missed, but it was an epic period of time for us. We have since not been able to find a buck like that where we had exclusive knowledge of.

Good luck! i shot a velvet buck around sept 8? a couple years ago. beautiful but was starting to peel on back fork tine. by the time i was done caping him out the velvet was a mess. really fragile when close to peeling off. soaked skull and antlers in water and the antler was completely white underneath. no blood stains at all... it looks weird.

Interesting! This is my first muzzleloader hunt and I've never hunted archery, so all of my hunting before now has been in October/November. I have been assuming this whole time that they would still be in the velvet during my hunt, but am now starting to realize that probably won't be the case. You can also see in one of the videos above that he's already starting to rub. If I'm lucky enough to get a shot at this buck, I'm not going to be hung up on the state of his velvet, but definitely would love to get a velvet buck on the wall someday.

Yes sir, I actually had one with me while I was watching this buck, but I chose to get one for my GoPro instead of my phone. My thought was that I would get more longevity out of the GoPro mount since I don't plan on getting a new GoPro anytime soon, but I get a new phone every few years. I put my camera on my spotter and just could not get it to work right. I messed around with it for about 10 minutes trying to get the image right but ended up just using my phone so I could at least get some footage of him before he bedded down.
