2022 Meatpole

With the pronghorn hunts behind us (mostly) and archery deer and elk starting today I figured we should have a meatpole post. I know some have already posted their success but would be nice to have a dedicated kill page.

I was able to take this buck at 278 after passing up a smaller buck at 198 about an hour earlier. Smaller buck was very curious and would run away then come back for over 5 minutes and I decided to let him walk. Stalked this buck on my hands and knees until I decided I couldn't get closer without him spooking. One shot from the 7-08 and he dropped where he was standing.

I plan to put it in the 2022 adventure forum after I complete the CDT. I wrote about half before I had to catch the plane back to Montana, but probably won't get the rest until I return home.

We also need to start a complaint thread to game and fish about the new tags they provided this year, between this elk and the antelope i tagged I can say the tags provide this year are worthless, need to go back to the sticky back ones . Geez is that too much to ask lol

I agree. I have read several complaints about the tags on FB after the speedgoat hunts. I put mine in a sandwich bag after i ate the sandwich.

Filled my elk tag on 9/5. I really enjoyed having my daughter along too. Very blessed to be able to live and hunt in NM!

I started my 2022 season off with a Alaska dall sheep hunt which I am very fortunate and blessed to have been successful! Now off to Montana for the general combo deer and elk in a few short weeks! If anyone has any advice on that hunt I’m all ears.

I think that is there hopes is they can just start to make everyone use the E-tag. E-tag is not bad but you have to remember to have tape and a sharpie.

Flagging tape and a ball point pen should be staple items in any daypack.

I was skeptical at first and thought what's the point, you have to carry a "tag" anyway.

Have used it the last couple of years. Won't go back the the traditional paper tag.
