Moose in Nevada

Thought I would share, this is a big deal regarding a migration of a large mammal, I have lived in NV for 35 years, hunted and hiked this state all over, love this place, but who would’ve thought 20 years ago we would have a thriving Moose herd with no help from any organization.

If there are really over 100 animals established in NV, I don't see why we couldn't take a couple bulls right now. Do one Silver State tag and one general draw tag. Let thousands of us pay for applications each year just for a 'chance'. -------SS
Not to go back to fcfs as it’s been beat like a dead horse but this would offset any revenue loss ndow would get by keeping resident tags to residents. Not a bad idea at all from a business sense. I’d be interested to see success rates if it happens

I had no clue we had moose in Nevada. Did they mention any possibility of a hunt in 10-15 years if the population grows?

I listened to the recorded podcast a while back a day or two after the live podcast and the word hunting wasn’t used during the event nor was there any discussion about a potential hunt. There was even a Q&A session and if anyone asked the question wasn’t read during the podcast. It seemed to me the topic was being avoided.

I saw the first moose in 1998 30 miles north of battle mountain told f&g they said they were tracking him from wells
I saw my first moose just north of Wells in the early 2000’s. Thought it was a mule but the more I thought about it, I doubted myself. Ended up turning the truck around (wife loves it when that happens) and drove back to see it again. She was 50 yards off the highway wading through the sage brush. At that time I knew someone who worked for fish and game and they said they knew about her. Told me there were 5 or so that migrated down and back each year. Didn’t see another one until about 6 years ago in 061/071 and now I see them every year up there between Tennessee and the back side of Merit. Last year I saw two small bulls in 062. Spent more time watching them than helping my buddy on his deer hunt. I think some lady shot a cow moose a couple years back thinking it was a cow elk.

I videoed two bulls on elk mountain in 2015 it’s on YouTube Nevada moose fast forward to the 2 minute mark one was pretty big.

Amazing where you find moose sometimes. Saw one when hunting antelope in Wyoming a few years ago. Never would of thought to see a moose in antelope county.

What's Antelope country though?

I've seen Antelope at 4,000 feet in the flats and I've seen Antelope in wooded areas at 8500 feet.

Seems like all the big game species have a wide range of what is acceptable habitat.

Saw this one step over a fence I guess that’s how they got into Nevada. Snake mountains 2021. I’ve seen them in Jarbridge as well.

Cool vid and cool how easily he cleared that fence. It also looks more like country you’d see chukar and huns than a bull moose!
