Figured it is about that time, decided to make this for those that are curious about who is talking and where. Did some late night listening this weekend in Northern Co and all was quiet hoping they are starting to kick it off next weekend. If you are hearing where and when? Post it up

They’ve been bugling for a couple weeks where I’m at in Central Ut. They were rutting super hard this past weekend. Seems early but it was in full swing
That is great! I was thinking parts of co that have been getting the really good moisture may see an earlier rut this year

I've heard three bugles in a certain unit in Eastern Oregon. It has been extremely hot, since the opener and isn't cooling down much. I assume once it does, it will get them talking more.

Ive heard bugles in June and I’ve heard them in January. Every year it cracks me up. Guys think since it’s September 1st the rut must be on!! Frankly I like it though. Everyone blows there whole load the first two weeks of the month then when it’s actually time to elk hunt the woods are empty

Not everyone…

Super hot still nothing as far as bugles around but did have a little 4x5 come investigate a wallow I was sitting, and heard a couple bulls sparing this morning which was cool

Heard bugles all afternoon and early evening today.. dang neighbor just kept blowing his call, while I was trying to do my yoga

Bugler on northern slope of San Fransisco peaks (AZ) yesterday. We got a glimpse of him running through the timber...

94 degrees at 9600 ft at 1pm.

Someone call Al Gore.

Elk ain't moving in that heat. Nor are Grouse, or chipmunks

I wonder if it will just be a moonlight rut for most areas and then they all slap it back in the thick pines when done before daylight

Definitely might be the case… that is the one thing going again the smoke poles, they will have a full moon to contend with

First bugles for me in northern co… wife was nursing the little one at 530 and wakes me up says she thought she heard bugles. Went out on the porch and got him to bugle a few times with me, but everything went silent at day break

Other then sitting water this evening and checking a cam “bow hiking” tomorrow I’ll be back from the 16-26 to really hunt!

Very slow on Grand Mesa the last 4 days. Some bulls would respond to a call after dark but that’s it. Hot, dry, big moon, and lots of pressure makes for silent bulls this time of year.

In Southern NM they were talking when you got close to the herd all the cows mewing and bulls screaming at em heard them since sept 2
Not as much up north last night , watched a couple bulls bugle and then walk right next to each other and cows all around them and no aggressive posturing. About 300 yards os open grass and my and my daughter were hung up could make a move and they would bugle back at me but other than calling and looking our way they had no interest in walking away from the cows. Same thing thos cows and calfs were chattering and my daughter enjoyed that. 5 days to make it happen and am worried its still way early...

ditto. i've got my stuff loaded p to head out this weekend and i may just bag it until the 16th. i don't need to go camping during hunting season just to go
Getting soft I see ;) Guys make way too much of the moon and heat - sure it changes things, but I would rather be in the woods with a chance to kill something than being at home with ZERO chance.

meh. ive killed lots of elk, and ive never needed a month to do it. buddy just came down from the area i hunt and said towns a zoo. is every year then i end up with the entire woods to myself because everyone used there vacation the first two weeks in 90 degree heat. ima go kill a coyote tomorrow. that'll tide me over

Northern NM the elk are getting cranked up. Slowly building more and more each day. The second season archery guys should have quite the rut fest happening. The real big boys aren’t with the herds yet that I have seen. But they are nearby waiting for the cows to heat up it seems like. Hoping we can get it done in the next day or two.

I just got home from a week hunting elk in Wyoming, some bugling early AM and then pretty quiet.

Smoke and cooler temps came in on Wednesday night....

Talking pretty good yesterday morning.

Leaving next wknd for the last week of the Utah bow dates and helping out a guy that his daughter has the Youth Rifle Tag.

Hopefully, they will be talking a little on the North Slope so the Young Lady can have some excitement and anticipation for a bull coming in for her to shoot.

Heard another bugle early this morning.

Woke me out of a dead sleep!

Musta been the smothered chimichanga with rice and beans from last evening…

First afternoon out in southwest Idaho on Wednesday ran into 10 bulls in a bachelor group but no bugling from them. Two of the 6 points were rattling horns with each other but nothing too major. Then the next day found a herd of 13 cows and a smallish 6x7 bull and he was bugling.

Coyotes are responding to calls pretty well. Called in 7 yesterday in 3 sets. Think I’ll go elk hunting next weekend when the bulls are ready

Was down in southern Co being a pack mule for a buddy who got a little raghorn out of a lot of pressure, very quiet last night and today, thinking after the muzzy boys head out the bulls will be ready to rock

You guys can talk bugling all you want to but the cows are most in heat between the 23 and the 27th in north eastern utah. The hot weather, the moon, the cold, the rain and all that other stuff doesn’t make them cows come in heat Any sooner so remember that. A change of weather will fire some bulls up but won’t make them cows heat up any sooner.

Southern Colorado September 2nd - 9th, few younger bulls bugling but pretty quiet overall. Only saw a couple decent bulls with herds, other mature bulls were solo.

Western Idaho is DEAD Quite other than the woods full of those Barking running wild F--king so called Hound Dawgs !!! Had a pack of those worthless POS dawgs ruin a stalk on a bedded bull on Sat !! Turned loose off a logging road up on top of the drainage FKing dawgs were running all the hill back & forth never treed **** Not even a damn Squirrel !!! But they sure ran 2 small groups of elk out of the drainage !! NICE JOB guys even had one come up behind me with in about 3 feet .. Damn glad they are done in my area the 15th of Sept !!

NE Utah, heard a couple bugles over the weekend, early in the morning, well before shooting light. Silent after that.

Left west central NM last Friday. They really responded when it rained in the late afternoon. Hunted a big herd bull for three days and could not get it done. He had a dozen bodyguards that were better than me. A few nice satellites were always around but I held out and ate the tag. Bulls were talking better in the evenings better than mornings. If it was cloudy it really helped, wish i had another week.... but needed to save time for CO and MT deer coming up.

That sucks man! Had that happen to me here in New Mexico one year. Had a bull coming in on a string for my son at the time was 16. The dogs trashed out on the elk and chased them outta the county’s! Even though it’s illegal to run hounds here in New Mexico during the archery deer and elk seasons. Talked to the warden they never did anything.
