Basin buck

Who’s crying now? Seems somebody’s making a fuss about the buck cause they didn’t get a crack at him. Someone pushing the city police chief to try and get city council to create an ordinance that bans any hunting inside city limits. Currently Roosevelt City has no regulations on the topic but that’s all about to change. Hear they’re supposed to be voting on it soon if they haven’t already. Hate crybabies!

Yes they will make it illegal to hunt in city limits and then in a few years ygey will hire animal control to kill the city deer.

It is actually an ordinance to ban hunting on city owned property inside city limits, not ban hunting on private property in city limits. The city property is a parcel of land that the buck sometimes visited. The property is now a walking park that will soon have a kids fishing pond added to it. It was brought about by a constant nagging to the city from a hunter to hunt the walking park for this buck. That is why the city is going in this direction.

If Another City/Basin Buck Shows Up In The Same Area?

And They Get Their Law Passed?

I Wonder What The Chances of Enforcement Will be?

You Know Damn Well Somebody is Gonna Try it!

Oh for sure. I had some property nearby posted and still had guys sneaking in to hunt it. They were crossing the fence right over my no trespassing sign. The neighbors seen them in there twice but we couldn't catch them. Some people absolutely lose their mind when it comes to a big buck. All ethics, rational thought, and obeying the law goes out the window.

Other people trespass because it's just a way of life to them. They never get caught, so they keep on doing it. When they do get caught, nothing usually happens anyway.

Only someone from Utah would be proud of shooting a town buck.
Just curious what would be better than a hunter taking a "town buck"..? While I get the spirit of your post, I can't think of any other way I'd want this buck to die... (Except of natural causes in my backyard of course). :D

I think that a tame buck getting shot by a “hunter” is one of the worst ways for that buck to go. I’d rather see it die from any other way. For someone to put that on their wall as a trophy is laughable at best.

This wasn't a "tame" buck. This buck wasn't your normal "town buck" that you see posted frequently. He lived on the edge of town and frequented a field. He spent the majority of his time on private land, and would disappear frequently from what I'vebeen told. This deer wouldn't just let you walk up to him and shoot him, he was still a wild deer, just not as wild as some.

The Deer was shot with a bow by a 12 year old kid, (one of the great grandchildren of the land owner) he disappeared for a few weeks but eventually came back, they continued trying to get him killed but never got into an ethical range for his set up again, the kid passed up multiple opportunities at the deer when he was just a bit to far out. Apparently one of the uncles had a rifle tag and it still took 3 days of hunting just that buck to get it killed. So it wasn't your typical "town buck"

Leave it to a utard to try to make different classifications of “town bucks”. That buck was tamer than most peoples dogs and he got old yeller’d

? ok, I never called it a town buck, just cause a few have labeled it one doesn't make it one, and you knew what I meant SS, this buck wasn't walking through neighborhoods eating peoples flowers.

Actually... This buck lived most of his life within 4 or 500 feet of a residence. I've watched him for the past couple years and he loved to come over to my moms back yard and eat the apples off of her trees. I grow sweet corn and pumpkins on her place for the local stores and jumped him out of there quite frequently. He knew where the good groceries were! Between my kids and I changing water and haying we seen him sometimes daily and he got quite use to us. Not sure why this year he was so tame, puts on 30" of bone and just got flat stupid. The day these pics were took that started this post was the opening day of the archery hunt. I was cutting third crop at 1 in the afternoon and kept pushing him with the swather on each back swath. I couldn't get a very good video so I called Horsecorn over to ride with me and get a better pic. He ended up just setting up on the edge of the field and getting the pics you see. I didn't have a tag for this unit but had already resigned my self to not shooting him if I did. For me it just wouldn't be very sporting or a challenge to kill him. The two kids hunting him had a ball though. Actually helped the one young man look on my side of the fence for the buck after he shot him. They thought he had died on my side where he liked to bed but he wasn't there. As for taking three days to kill him in general season I think it was more of waiting for the buck to get to the far side of the property where a rifle shot was safe and not towards a house. That is just my opinion, but the buck was visible and out during the opener. It would be interesting to know his age. I think he was only about 5. I was hoping he would make it a few more years to see his true potential and to spread the genetics. Hopefully he got it done the last couple of years.

And Farmer Dan blows Jake H's hypothesis out of the water. Sorry but these town bucks are a lot more tolerable of people, scent, etc. You cannot compare a wilderness muley to a town muley

Yep! JakeH used to be one of the more rational utards but I think drinking all that salt water has caught up to him. Next he’s going to tell me the island bucks are wild ?

I was just relaying the info I was given. I was told they looked for him for 3 days before killing him on Monday. ? and that he disappeared regularly.

I also said he wasn't as "wild" as some, I never said he was as wild as a high country buck that rarely sees people.

And have you ever been to most areas that have limited hunting??? Most of the deer including the bucks will let you drive right up to them, sometimes within yards and will hardly even look at you. Especially in July. This buck is no different, yeah he is used to seeing cars and people at a distance but I bet he wouldn't have let someone walk up and shoot him with a bow. Drive passed him with a tractor and you probably got a shot though. It is what it is, if it's not for you then it's not for you. Nobody is making you hunt them if you don't want too.

That could be one of the nicest things you've ever said to me SS. And those island deer are just as wild as most LE units with well traveled roads. If they happen to be by the road you can get pretty close to them, but try walking towards them from several hundred yards away, they run just as hard as any deer I've seen, at least from my limited experience. I got to go shed hunting out there one year, they wouldn't let you get close to them.

The Buffalo on antelope island are spookier than any buff I’ve seen in AK Canada and WY. The deer didn’t seem too spooky but could have been time of year.

It also depends on where they like to hang out, those deer over by the visitor center and camp ground we're a lot more tolerable of people I noticed. I've not spent much time out there. But the one time I got to wander the island with free reign those deer would up and run from a long way off. But like I said I haven't been out there a ton.

I don't think youre being honest here SS... I'm sure you wouldn't want the buck hit by a car, or caught in a barbed-wire fence... or eaten alive by coyotes..? I'm sure you wouldn't want him poached.? Maybe you wouldn't choose it the way it went down, but its not the worst way to go...
