Moose and elk. my wife has 25 moose and deer points.

The number of NR preference tags is so low anymore it's almost impossible to draw in this point class . I may have to change my game plan or I'll be too old to hunt before we draw .

Someone has 23 antelope points? ?

I'm trying to burn points as fast as I can in most states. In UT, as a NR, I've drawn my LE elk, deer, and pronghorn tag. Had 25 pts for deer this year when I drew. Got lucky in 2014 and drew LE archery elk with 5 pts. Is it weird that I have 19 general deer points? lol!!

I have close to max bison pts. Most years they havent even issue 1 nonres tag in the bonus pool of tags. I’m sure it’s the same way for other super limited tags.

At least this coming year they are supposed to have nonres tag quotas available before the deadline so nonres know which units have tags…plus how many tags.

You Gonna Hunt Them Harder Than We Already Do?

I Told Everybody The Point System Wouldn't Work!

Well Here The HELL We Are!

I Don't Know About Anybody-else But I'm Not Throwing My Points Out The Window & Starting Over!

I'm Way Too F'N Old For That Kinda BS!

This right there is exactly why we need a new Elk plan.☝️

Thanks jake.

You're also going to to be WAY too F'N old to kill a bull if you don't burn those points soon my guy!! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Bucks I have 26 nonres bison pts so not many in front of me. Just need to figure out which unit and whether they will offer a max pt tag

You're never going to please everyone. Although it's not perfect, I mostly like Utah's points system. And like has already been stated, there's plenty of opportunity (between CWMU's, archery & muzzy hunts) to draw LE tags without decades worth of points. It boils down to supply and demand and ones own personal expectations.

Ugh. that's depressing. I'm assuming that's R and NR combined? I can't imagine residents buiding that many however. I've got 25 elk points going into 2023. With the coming elk changes, I'm likely to try for archery this time.

29 GAWD-DAMNED Years is a Perty Good Chunk of One's Life!
I think that all the time. More than half my life I've sat around watching the DWR keep f'n around with these stupid management ideas. Always a half measure, never having the balls to fully address and fix an issue for fear of public outcry.

Lots of great hunts to be had for 25 points.

I think the new Elk plan is a Good plan. I really like that they got rid of the Multi season and opened up more GS any bull units. That will definitely get rid of some crowding issues even with having unlimited tags for the second season Rifle.

There is one thing's I don't approve of and that's Wade Heaton. He shouldn't have had a say in the Paunsaugunt at all.

I will say this much as many empty seat's that where at the RAC's/Board meeting.
Sounds like everyone was pretty much in favor of the new plan.

I have 24 resident moose points. Hell I thought I was getting close. By the time I draw I will be old as hell. I looked at the draw odds. They list 29 as maximum.

Points systems work just fine as long as you allot tags for them. Utah has so many hunts in every unit that often there's zero tags for the high point holders. 15 seasons in a unit with 1 NR tag per hunt is stupid.
Need to give a better percentage to max point holders. The 50/50 split is cool but it’s causing point creep. (I have 0 resident bonus points btw) drew an elk tag with 18 points and last year got an antelope tag with 0. Which is nice but the people with 5-8 points should have got that tag and moved them out of the system. Makes drawing a tag a little more predictable and brings the overall wait time down. 75/25 would be my thought, but I'm not cool enough to be on a committee of any sort so it doesn’t matter.

I disagree, if they make any changes at all it should be to go the other way, and to stop giving points. Cap everybody at where they are right now. Keep it 50/50 for a set number of years, then reduce it to 25/75 until all points are gone.

You will never get away from point creep as long as you are giving people more points. Look at Colorado they give 100% to max points and point creep is as big as ever.

So either leave it alone as it really is the best point system, or stop giving points.

Hard to tell people with 30 points that they are getting phased out. I agree though the point system is a problem. I think small changes here and there could help improve I just don’t know if it’s too late.

Wyoming has proved bait and switch screwing of NR hunters can be done. but it's going to cost the state money in the end.

For example, I have 25 UT moose points. today there are only what 2 or 3 NR points tags ? that's a fraction of what there was when I started. but moose numbers are down and that's the way it goes so I get it.

but if after a quarter century of paying my dues you say I'm tired of point creep so you people with points can GFYS we're going to just go with bonus points sorry about your luck, that is another matter. if I live long enough as it is I'll draw someday there aren't many ahead of me , but if the points tags go away I'll have basically no chance and I'll quit. that's a pretty unfair way to end point creep.

Funny. I hunt in Canada and Mexico for a reason. At the top for deer points. If they close the puans or Henry’s again I will apply.

General-season Buck Deer 20 points

I'll prolly get with ridgetop and my buddy to share my 20 Ressy points with those 2.

We can hunt where/how we want once we draw the tag.

If they want to

Robb

So?

We're Gonna Manage Deer So Poorly We'll Have To Close It Again?

If It Keeps Going There Won't Be a Choice!

They'll Close Their-selves!

SAD!

I have 27 deer and 26 bison points. For deer, looks like 7 nonresidents ahead of me and 11 with me, counting points only purchases. Think I'll stay Henrys or bust. I wish they would offer a nonresident muzzleloader max points tag. I drew elk on year 2 and switched from sheep to bison the fourth year because it looked like I would draw sooner with the older tag numbers. There are not many max points tags for bison, need to guess the right unit before tag numbers are released. I don't think there has ever been a nonresident sheep preference tag yet, points are almost useless for sheep.

Starting in 2023 you will be able to know the tag numbers before putting in. FYI

History repeating itself. I still remember the first year the former reopened. Nothing has compared to it.

Neither are anything like they were.
