FCFS changes

Am I correct when I say no more deer tags will show up on FCFS this year? The only tags that can come out are for the antlerless elk hunts that start Dec 5th?
There are a couple late deer hunts. Not many tho and I can’t imagine to many of those tags get returned. Although more than a few broken hearted hunters with point separation anxiety will likely wish they had..

I knew it...

This may be the best thing for me. IF I could pull a tag off of there my wife would not be impressed. Some things though are worth going to the doghouse for.

Also can’t they technically still return tags for a hunt that is going on until the end of the season?

There are still hunts going through Nov 20/30 and quite a few late season hunts Nov-Jan for everything but speed goat and Cal/Rocky Bighorn.

But if the season has started for that particular tag/species, it can't be put on FCFS so all deer tags are done for the possibility of grabbing one on FCFS, correct? There are a couple of late archery deer hunts so I stand corrected.

Theres a handful of late deer hunts that start in December. Fewer than a handful Bull elk hunts that start late November, and some cow elk. Likely slim pickins the rest of the year.

I've seen tags pop with only days left in the season, thus the disclaimer to check the dates closely before purchasing! It will tell you how many days are left in the season on the tag when it pops, it is in red in the lower portion of the image.

Sure it can….it just needed to be surrendered to fcfs before season opens

it certainly can be put on fcfs....if it lays on a fcfs employee desk for half the season they can put it up....

Not abundantly clear, but clear enough. As far as I see, tag can be turned in let's say for 4 days before end of season for this posts sake. You can purchase but best have an NDOW office 1/2 mile away like me to grab that sucker and get going!!!

Not sure it did change? The far right statement in the image above was the same last year. Digging in the regs as I type, nothing is really clear on this.

I called them. (amazing what you can learn when you simply call). You cannot return a tag after a season has started. They have a few days to process a return after they receive a tag. So theoretically, a season can start on Saturday, gets returned on Friday (day before season). They dont process it until Monday, it shows up 3 days after its started on FCFS. They did say they try and process all same day, but they have people walking in at 4:59 PM the day before a hunt to turn in a tag.

I KNEW you couldn't return a tag after the season started. Thanks for backing that up.

That "being human" lag time is for real! Explains the off "this many days left in season" numbers. System is coming around and I am still all for it.

I love the FCFS system. It hasn't benefited me yet but I saw tons of tags months ago that I didn't click on that I may have been able to get. The seasons did not fit in with my life at the time. Maybe next year stars will align.

I recall 11 tags went unused last year because people kept adding to cart, then not buying them. The 7-day penalty should've mostly fixed that problem. Of course the human lag time could be an explanation as well.

I see that another 16 antlered elk tag came and went. Hope it went to someone with lots of points. :)
Saw these three yesterday after the one you missed at 1pm...

It is nuts that hunters return tags like that. May not ever draw it again....

it doesn't.....wiszard just doesn't comprehend that the managers of fcfs putting tags up for sale after the season starts has nothing to do with when it was returned....

Nothing but respect for you Homer...but don't see anything in our (wiszard and I's) conversation today that relates to that. Believe he was just shocked that that tag was turned in...I think we have poured enough fcfs down his throat that he get's the basics!

Cheers,
Chump

I totally get what you are saying.............I was hammering wisz......on his old post....had nothing to do with your current conversation....

Chump- Homer has been sliding into my DM's constantly and he just can't comprehend that I am straight. I've given up. He's gotten so "in your face" at times that Grinder froze his account.

Appreciate that Wiszard, but not my battle. I have no issues with either of you and will continue to roll along at a steady pace...Reminds me of my Grandpa and his brother!!!

Ya'll need to get a beer together sometime!!!

So curious who's face was who's!!!???

I would have gotten one of those but unfortunately I’m not eligible for deer or elk now.
That sheep tag would have been nice with zero points but I wasn’t looking at the time lol.

I certainly will! Heading back over the day after Thanksgiving is the plan. Was fortunate to pull an 072-074 archery elk tag earlier this year and excited to come back for round 2!
Definitely keep us posted. A friend and a few peeps on MM have 081 for the Dec-Jan hunt!

Hard for me to think someone would give back a 231 bull tag. Makes me wonder if several folks are giving those back or it’s been picked up and put down on fcfs a few times

Yeah I know, what I am wondering is if the tag tonight is the same tag as yesterday (person added to their basket but didnt buy and it showed up again today) or if multiple 231 tags were given back. Probably no way to know
Could be the case.

Looks like at least one ram tag came up for today's Nov 20 opener? Other than Homer with the early ram tag, no other MM hawk was able to snatch a ram tag so far this year? It's not quite over, but I hear the fat lady warming up.

Can't wait to hear how Homer does....
According to his post and screenshot (page 2 of this thread), Homer's 161 ram tag ended on October 15th. Over a month ago. Then on Page 4 Homer said he was still targeting a ram tag. I think he was pulling everyone's leg on grabbing that 161 tag.

I was always just under the impression he saw a ram tag but wasn’t able to grab it in time

My dad taught me never to leave a sports game when it looks like it's over, I'm staying till the end!!

I’ve missed Colorado leftovers, so figured i would see what the NV fuss was all about.

Yesterday I learned you can’t click first and then determine what you just carted later? Is that right? I had a cow tag yesterday afternoon but was surprised I couldn’t find out what it was. So I sent them $500 to find out.

It didn’t show in the cart ?

Nope once it’s in your cart it just tells you it’s an elk tag. Not what unit season etc. imagine that, you have to read before you grab something
TT is correct. Unless you can scan/read like a Ninja, that extra .5 seconds to digest the info usually means the tag is gone.

At least you know it's ALW! I know, dirt in the pudding. Hopefully the unit works for you, are you hunting through Dec or Jan? :p

Haha yeah I was just playing around with it. I don’t have 48 spare hours to drive round trip from Tx let alone sign up for another hunt. I was surprised to see that you can’t click first and ask questions later.
Bull elk, I would have to think about I guess :D

While trying to pick up an archery deer tag right before opener if I spent .2 seconds reading what the tag was before clicking "add to cart" it was gone every time. Had to revert to just clicking as fast as I could, make payment and hope it was something interesting. Ended up with a 10s tag which was not great but fine by me.

Looks like the FCFS system is gonna have even less tags this year.
With the new rule all returned tags go to an alternate up to 14 days before the season starts.
And any resident tag stays resident.
Non resident tags stay non resident.
The majority of the tags turned in were resident
So I would think tags will be on much longer now.
