Internal frame for Alaknak tent

Thought about building my own but is there anything out there? Thoughts? Experiences? This is the 12x20 and it stood up to 50 mph+ winds, staked in soft soil but made for long nights with low confidence. I’ve only used it on two 9 day hunts

If I remember right, the Poles are on the outside with each pole having its own line? And then 2 internal supports?

With the way the material is on those tents, it's going to wear a hole in the fabric faster than you can think.

If it held up in those conditions, and it still standing, don't worry about it.
If you truly do want an internal frame tent, I would sell the Aklanak, and call Davis for the internal frame tent. Also wall tent shop has a lot of options.

I have a 20 plus year old internal frame 12x14x5 (not certain of the brand). It is now set up for what is its third full winter, and won't come down until March or April depending on the thaw.

I was concerned about the supports inside wearing through for sure. Thought about beefing up that part of the roof. That’s actually why I thought about the internal frame too. Figured added support would extend the life. Selling it might be an option but I’d hate to take a loss since I’ve only used it twice, plus I’d have to spend more on canvas than I did on the Alaknak

Have used the 13x27 Alaknak for 10+ years haven’t had any issues with the materials wearing out. Held up great in wind, rain and snow. I’d keep the tent if I were you.

I've had the 12' X 20' Alaknak tent for 6 years now. I've spent over 100 nights in it under all kinds of conditions. I've been very happy with it. Having a wood burning stove makes it very nice under cold or wet weather.

I wouldn't set up any large flat sided tent in a place that would expose it to frequent 50+ mph winds. If you plan on setting a tent up in the open in a place that exposes it to heavy wind, I would look at buying a dome tent that is designed to resist wind.
