I know this is getting late in the game and many folks are booked up but I’ve had a change in my plans for next fall so I’m looking to see what’s out there. I’d like to rifle hunt but am not opposed to archery hunting. Have 8 points for elk, 6 for deer. Mainly looking to elk hunt but would consider a combo elk/deer hunt. I’ve killed some elk before so I’m looking for quality over quantity. Any suggestions? Thanks!

This is false info, look at draw odds , see what you can draw then go from there if you’re wanting to get it done with 8 points !!

He isn't far off - there likely won't be much outside of a general that can be had for 8 points in the 2023 drawing. Expect a fairly big spike in applicants with changes on the horizon.
To the OP, you might take a look at area 6. There are a few reputable outfitters there and a decent 6 point is a reasonable expectation in that area. I think most are already booked for 2023 but you might get lucky and slide in if someone cancels.

Special for elk deer and antelope tag prices will be going up considerably in 2024. Over $2000 for elk. Also talk of a 90/10 tag allocation for deer elk and antelope but I don’t think that will get traction. The big one is everybody putting in this next year because they don’t want to pay $2000 for an elk tag and because of the cost increase a lot more people will be applying for the regular tag and point creep will explode.

And regionalized general tags, and removal of 7250 guarantee on elk tag numbers. It all won't be bad but to many, the amount of potential changes will spur them to apply while the familiar system is in place. Applicants for Wyoming elk tags will increase quite a bit this year.

No but there is enough smoke to suggest that there are going to be some changes. I believe that will be enough to start some point burning.
