At hockey tonight one of the other parents said they are changing the rules for Game and Fish officers to enforce trespassing? Anyone have the scoop on this?

It also would allow corner crossing...

Here is an article about it that I saw posted on another site…

Horniac

If WY doesn't want NR hunters, then just man up and discriminate completely and not allow any NR to hunt in the "cowboy state" and be done with it...

This has nothing to do with the OPs question
There is a second half to that article. It mentions that game and fish can charge criminal trespass and not just hunting/wildlife trespass… not sure it does anything about corner crossing???

I believe it does if it passes. To trespass, one must physically touch the property. The language used is now specific in that a person stepping over a corner, who doesn't physically touch property, isn't trespassing. The second part simply allows game wardens to avoid having to call sheriff's in to make a call on the trespass. I believe that is also a good change. Game wardens, from my experience, are very in tune with hunting and landowner issues. Some deputies, not so much.

Sorry, but you are reading way too much in that bill. As far as corner cross, it would just side with the AG opinion that it's not a title 23 trespass.

The purpose of the bill is too eliminate the "intent" excuse when actually trespassing to hunt public land.

Are there different types of trespassing for the purpose of hunting than what's defined in title 23? Corner crossing appears to be addressed in this particular bill.

I may be too optimistic I guess... the language does seem very clear to me though.

I read an article where they discussed allowing wardens to enforce the Title 6 trespass. I don't see any proposed bills filed yet that would allow that to happen.

JM 77 is correct. This would prevent someone from unloading their firearms, driving across a 2-track through private land, or walking across private land to public, then claim they had no intent to hunt the private land. I believe a jury found in favor of some hunters out of Cody, WY with similar facts.

So why the added language about physically touching the property?

Because the original bill last year did not include that wording and there was an uproar by the public that the bill was a back door to making corner cross illegal using the words "travel through".

Very poorly written article by the way, which is par for the course at the Cowboy State Daily. The trespass bill is SF56 ot 46.

So wouldn't this be a back door making corner crossing legal? If you have to touch before it is considered trespassing...

The 2 types of trespassing are confusing to many in Wyoming.
Thanks for mentioning the 2 types above JM.
