looking for some help. I have enough points to draw this tag, but i'm a little bit nervous . looks like its mostly private. I've got ahold of one land owner just looking for a couple more options . looks like there is a outfitter muddy mountain outfitters. any help would be great, Where would I find more land owners.
thanks in advance

The elk are found mainly on a handful of ranches. Its limited access via the hunter management and access programs. Your best bet is with Rich Mason if yer willing to shell out the coin. If you hunt on Gordy's, you'll have the easiest elk hunt you can get. I know a few landowners in 19 and they won't let you hunt unless yer friends or family. If you have the points and don't go guided or want to compete with a boat load of other hunters, I'd look else where.

Did you hunt in WY unit 19 years back? I'm thinking of drawing it. Need some input. Thanks !

The 2022 report I got was quality is way down. Plus, it was difficult to find bulls that weren't busted up. It's been like that for a few years now, so nothing new.

If you want to go guided look at thunder ridge outfitters randy is a good guy and he knows the unit well.

How many points do you have? I think point creep is going to be strong this year. I think 19 is better than 120. 120 is huge but the elk hunting area is much smaller than 19.

I have 12 points. My father is coming. He's in decent shape but 65. I heard the terrain would be easier where the elk is in 120. I'll have my side by side. I heard 19 has more elk but tougher terrain. I'm hoping to get my biggest bull (300 inches) and not beat my father up too bad.

If you take into account where you can hunt in 19 (public land and HMA) you have far greater elk country to hunt in 120.

If you take into account where 80% of the elk will be in 19 (private land), you have far more elk to hunt in 120.

Killing a 300+ bull has more to do with how hard you hunt, than the difference in quality between areas. Be prepared to pack your elk much farther in 19.

Didn’t think it was possible to find a smaller elk hunting area than 19, all that public on the map is about void of wapati, they are all in the white.
