Holy balls……enough already. 2 feet plus and rising here on the winter range.

Snow days aren’t as fun when you spend all day every day digging out.

You would be outa business in my hood without a tractor or backhoe. Who knows what‘s happening up high.

Yeah it has been rough up here as well. Lots of snow. Before last blast we were sitting over 150% of normal just south of us we are over 180%

Snowpack and water content looks promising.

All that snowpack is needed and a good thing longer term but I'm starting to worry about winterkill for this year. That will be too bad since I seen a lot of mule deer twin fawns this year.

Jeezus…..another foot last night. It’s ball deep now

Yesterday before digging out. The other sxs is buried worse:ROFLMAO:

Where are you? Just curious? My buddy lives about 3/4 ways up the Grandmesa they are currently on track to Break the 20 year record for snow fall…

The snow water equivalent for the 22/23 winter in about half the west is above 150 percent as of right now for the WHOLE winter. It is at tipping point of green grass in the spring/summer/great antler growth and above normal winterkill the next couple weeks. Hopefully it tapers off quick in the buried spots.

Better start shoveling that roof. Just don’t end up on one of those “fails” videos.
First things first. You need to dig the cars out so in case the roof caves in you can drive to the airport to catch a plane to somewhere with a palm tree to wait out the remodeling job.

Then if you survive the shoveling, you can worry about the roof. I was kinda hoping for the wind to blow it off like usual. Or I suppose I could turn the heat tapes on. Doh.:cautious:

Half way between Cortez and Dove Crick.

Maybe some of the transplants will sell & go back to California
Bob, what’s happening on your side of the hill? They shut school for 3 days here because they can’t get the busses around. The county has plowed me in 3 days straight. Not that I’m complaining.

I'm in town. Got 3ft with the last storm. Schools shut down for a couple of days. We're digging out. Bright blue skies today---0 last night for the low temp. Lots of deer in down walking down the cleared sidewalks.

I initially thought we were okay for winterkill since the temps have been warm, there's not a lot of snow at the lower elevations in my area, and the animals went into winter in good shape. However, I talked with a friend in the Rangely area and he said the CPW did a flyover this week and found a lot of dead animals. Antelope, deer and elk. That not a good sign considering we are only halfway through Jan. There's a lot of winter left to go.

What is a lot? I would gues they know everyone is pissed at the slaughter of the doe and fawns etc. They know the numbers suck in the NW and they are already working a narrative to justify the lower quotas etc. be saying see we had too many deer…

I talk/email regularly with the WY bio just north of that and so far he says the deer are doing well, they were fat, the range was in good shape and there has not been the normal super cold -15 to -20 temps. Said the south slope are starting to expose etc. but other than a handful of antelope that got “drifted in” he has not see much winter kill. Is
Concerned that a cold snap and the crust could take a toll, but it has not yet…

Just FYI, I am not picking a fight or arguing with you or saying you are wrong. I am just questioning the report and
Motives…

I hope you're right.

When's the last time you talked with him? We have been pounded with precip recently. It hasn't stopped for a month.

He's a sheriff in Rangely and works with CPW frequently so I didn't question his report. He said they had about a foot in Rangely and 3 ft out of town in places.

I got an email from him 2 days ago on this topic... He said that the deer were in good places and wintering well. I am sure there will be some but I question what is a lot. A few years ago the deer got hammered in Rangely because it was too warm and the warmest temps were in the valley bottoms. The end result was a ton of deer hit on the highways compared to normal. Normally they would winter on the ridge tops and the top 1/3 becasue the cold inversions at night. That winter was warm no cold inversion and the deer were low...

I would also question seeing a bunch of dead laying because we have had non stop snow they would cover pretty fast. I will shoot and message to a guy I know and see what he says...

What I found was crazy is the NW area is pounded with snow and cold then drive West over Rabbit ears pass around Walden and Cawdrey and the snow is only foot or so deep. In my area I haven't scene sage brush in 2 months and go 25 miles east and its everywhere - go figure.

True.... I recently drove through New Mexico north through the San Luis Valley, Leadville, Kremmling. Little to no snow in the Valley, north even Kremmling had little, but starting near the backside of Rabbit ears it starts to pile up.
