Northern Deer Feeding

This is probably a good thing but sadly from what I've learned it's probably too late these feeding programs really need to start in November so that muledeer can get there system ready for this kind of food.

Mule deer are not like any other deer elk moose etc there really have a hard time switching over there feed.

Hopefully this saves a lot of deer as I remember 1983 1984 winter and did my science fair project on the mule deer that where starving all over utah wyoming and idaho.

Just know in 83 84 a lot of deer died with full stomachs they just can not process food into energy in many cases.

There are feeds on the market that are designed for mule deer. Antler Max is one of those. Sadly we have been feeding deer around our place since December and the deer look a hell of a lot better than the elk. I believe the feed the DWR is using comparable to Antler Max. Great product just very expensive.
Only time will tell but critters are getting their ass kicked around here!

I'm glad yo see them trying to do something as I took a drive yesterday and a lot has changed in a couple weeks ell are all down by i80 and 84 with the deer and it sounds like there picking up road kill every day now.

That graph is depressing. 3 out of the 6 years since 2017 have been above “average” snowpack years, and look at where we are at.

I realize this “average” is skewed some by the fact that the last 30 years, which is the time frame accounted for, has been a pretty extreme drought. But we’re going on our 4th year in 7 being “above average” and Powell will still likely drop more this year. (Not to mention the GSL.)

That is no bueno! Hoping we can fill up the smaller reservoirs along the way, at least.

yes...depressing....but can you just imagine the crying that would be going on around here if the graph wasn't depressing??
