2023 HUNT-EXPO ROLL CALL???

I've known who he is for years, he was part of the tines up crew when they got popular. I've watched some of his stuff over the years but don't know half the details a lot of the haters do lol.

People just love to hate.

I will admit I'm a bit jealous of the guy and those like him they figured out a way to make a living doing the stuff I love to do.
His partner is on the Technology Committee with me, apparently he does all the video and social media work for HUSH.
This is how I learned about Chesser as an individual, but I had seen the HUSH logo for a few years ?‍♂️

No complaining about draw odds. They are what they are.
DWR needs cash to get habitat projects done.
I will be there Friday early for most of the day.
Every state's DNRs need cash. It's the two decade long nefarious side show of SFW association & scandals, wealth tags, their diversion, fund skimming, lack of transparency, etc. that sets Utah in a league of it's own.

Thank god their spread to Arizona was stopped in it's path.

I am going for the first time in a long time with my brother and dad. My daughter is a taxidermist and has some mounts at one of the booths and I want to support her. One of the mounts is my dads archery buck and she is surprising him with more than he thought he was getting. Should be fun. I will throw some money in for some tags just to dream a little but I realize the odds so I want lose any sleep over it.
Having your trophy deer mounted by your granddaughter sounds about as good as it gets.

Came down from Idaho, validated my permit apps, and snuck in for two hours. Bought the salsa mix 2Lumpy recommended, or I never would have forgiven myself. Too many flat brims, sparkled jeans on guys, more Kuiu and Sitka camo than makes it to the hills. Chugging brews at 1100 doesn't seem like a good idea to me, but then I was driving home too. Typical show!!

Make sure to pack your wallet full,I didn't take the time to get discount tickets, bad mistake.
Parking was 30.00 Tickets to attend 25.00 each,Me and the wife 80.00 to get in the door,This didn't include the validation for hunts!!!

Your odds are better to hit a big winner in Vegas, then buy you a hunt.

$100 - $200 just to play, eat a snack, and see your fair share of arrow tattoos, ear tucked flatty’s, sparkling jeans, and the like…. Man you guys are hard core…

If you’re going for the jeans, pick up a pair of white framed douche bag Oakleys and a flatty to match the fit. You’ll look good this year rolling into camp day before the opener.

I used the MtnOps23 code they sent me in an email. No problem with the discount. Parked in the garage parking for 2-3 hours and it was $6.

I got in Free, Veteran discount.

I did $4 in quarters/ 1 1/2 hours, and park tight on the curb next to the Salt Palace Entrance.

The most crowded I've seen it on a Thursday 1000 opening.

I spend most of my time visiting the Diet Coke and Corn Dog vendors………. after I buy my year’s supply of Salsa Mix.
I should have paid closer attention. I saw the salsa vendor and bought the salsa, and then lo and behold, I see another salsa vendor. At that point I didn't know whether I'd bought the right salsa, so ended buying the second one too just to make sure I got the right one

I guess we’ll now need a report here, on the quality of the two via a taste test comparison report.

More importantly moz, where there any vendors/products you found, that would have enhanced your long trek last year?

Went, validated my raffle tag donation and left. Unbeknownst to me my wearing shorts and a torn to **** Sitka hoody got some attention from some dudes. I suppose jeweled jeans and pristine camo is all that is accepted in such places. As well as tucking one’s ears into a flatty.

It's about 900 miles for me to go. Roads are rotten across Wyoming (snow and wind) and I think I"ll stay put. Spent about 3 hours shoving snow around today.

I don't follow the flat brimers and my life seems fine. Don't know many of those internet warriors.

Life is what you make it. I have enjoyed going in the past; never won a thing. When you live in a real rural place in Wyoming, sometimes it good to go to the city so you appreciate what you have. But I'll pass this year and maybe for a while.

My highlight is always going to Rodezios for supper. Get the meat sweats every time. But man is that a good place to eat.
I bet you wish you had your own hunting Expo in Wyoming so you did not have to drive as far to have ‘fun’.

Teach us how to stop it!

I’m thinking about it, last year I kind of almost potentially got a pic kinda with Eric Chetnard and hoping to maybe seal the deal this year. Who s going to save Utahs wildlife? Great post wapiti Asssin hopefully there’s a good turn out for Don and the crew to save the Beehives state.

This is the best thing on the internet right now.

We parked in the City Creek parking garage, went to Cheesecake Factory for lunch (where they validate for parking) and then walked the block through the mall to the Expo. It was really pleasant and got us free parking.

The show is pretty much the same as every other year so we didn't spend much time looking around, just visited with old friends and left.

It was a nice way to spend a Friday.

More importantly moz, where there any vendors/products you found, that would have enhanced your long trek last year?

Two things.

First: I bought a Stone Glacier Terminus 8700 pack. It weighs only a little over 4 lbs. It was a little bit of a lesson learned from both my trek and from my stone hunt. My guide on my stone hunt carried a Stone Glacier pack, and even though my Eberlestock Dragonfly was adequate (barely) for the 12-day hunt, I started looking at all the additional space available that he had in his pack as a luxury that would have been nice to have. My trek taught me the importance of ultra light gear, but also when it comes to pack capacity, it's better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it.

So, looking forward to my 14-day dall sheep hunt this August, I decided I definitely could use a lighter pack with more capacity. Looked to me like the Terminus was a nice compromise between ultralight and capacity. If I like it, I may try it on either the PCT or the Te Aurora next year.

Second: The Sheep Feet inserts (I'm not affiliated in any way these guys). I actually bought this product from last years show because I wanted to first test them to see if they would be helpful on my upcoming CDT hike. I don't really know enough about these that I would be comfortable saying this product would be good for everybody, but for me, it was a huge difference maker on how far my flat feet were able to go in a single day. Without any inserts at all, my feet would max out at about 12 miles per day. I knew that wasn't going to be adequate for the CDT, so at the recommendation of a podiatrist friend I tried some inserts that almost immediately bumped me up to 18 miles before it got too uncomfortable. I was very pleased with these results and was planning to go with these. Then I saw the Sheep Feet guys at the Expo last year and thought what do I have to lose? So I tried them on my practice hikes and immediately my feet were capable of 20+ mile days without too much discomfort, and eventually on the CDT my feet were able to handle 25+ miles on a daily basis. So when I saw those guys again this year, I told them how happy I was with their product. They asked if I'd give a testimonial (which I agreed to do) and they gave me a nice T-shirt... :)

Happy to be done with the Expo side today, but still looking forward to the Sheep Camp tomorrow!

Don't know the numbers, but the two booths were pretty much on opposite ends of the Exhibit Hall. Maybe 2lumpy can tell you which one is the raved about one. I tried them both, and in the moment without trying them side by side, they both seemed pretty good to me.

Great post moz. I have feet issues as well, I’m going to look those folks up tomorrow and try a pair. I’ll tell them you referred me. They aught to give you a yearly replacement set, if they’re going to use you to market their product. I’ll suggest that……. unless you would rather I didn’t.

Good luck with the Sheep Herders tomorrow!

Yup H & H. They also sell a mix for chili that is good.

Speaking of which I'm just getting ready to kickoff my "make your farts sound like an elk bugle" seminar in the north end of the expo center. It will start in 1 hour, eat as much H&H chili/salsa and come on down.

At 3:30 we will be releasing a new product similar to pyro putty called "Blue Dart Express" Slams archery equipment will be raffled in the backroom this evening.

H & H Salsa Booth 5834 Moved to the extreme. North West end.

Looks like I got the wrong one! I went in the main entrance, turned left and walked right to a salsa booth. I tried a sample, and it was good, so I'll have to try the other next year!!! :)

That's the one I got too. Those salsa vendors eed to send lumpy a couple free cans, I'm sure they sold a bunch of extra cams because of this post lol

They moved the H&H Booth to the far north west end. Booth 5834

I bought one from each. I liked the one you bought too.

Life time shelf life, so what the heck……

I bought the wrong salsa and also I was severely underdressed for the sheep camp, I don’t own enough kuiu to fit in at that event. I came away altogether having enjoyed my time, but realized it is nice to have all the gear I need already(besides the new skre puffy I bought, maybe I should’ve gotten kuiu so I can fit in at sheep camp next time). Didn’t spend too much time in the main expo hall but also didn’t see any bedazzled jeans or ear tucked flattys, I think I was spending more time gawking at all the mounts and the $10,000 rifles

I’ll just want repeat this again, in case anyone missed it.

IF YOU PUT A FULL PLASTIC CUP OF MIX INTO A CAN OF DICED TOMATOES, IT WILL REALLY HOT, AS ELKASSASSIN SAID. I WOULD RECOMMEND YOU START WITH A QUARTER OF THE PLASTIC CUP FULL, TASTE IT, IF YOU WANT IT HOTTER, ADD A LITTLE MORE, UNTIL YOU GET THE AMOUNT OF HEAT YOU LIKE.

I CAN’T TAKE A FULL CUP FULL…… I GUESS OTHERS CAN BUT NOT ME. I LIKE THE FLAVOR AND I LIKE THAT I CAN MIX IT AS HOT OR NOT……… AS I LIKE.

Besides the can of diced tomatoes, I like to chop up some sweet onions and mild green peppers and add it to the tomatoes. It gives the salsa a little more crunch.

I’ve also wondered if you could add a little of the mix to your jerky recipe, to add a bit of heat and flavor.

Hope you enjoy it.

So it's a salsa mix that you have to make salsa then add the mix? Next post will be "buy a bottle of pace, open it, eat it with a tortilla chip, then throw your mix away" You're losing me Lump....

Hey moz, one of my grandson’s works for the company that provides all of the vendors the equipment they need at the Expo, so for the last week, he has been on a dead run, back and forth…. for the vendor booths, making sure they have what they need in their displays etc.

So he’s setting in my son’s Expo booth today, waiting go the phone to ring to see what he can do to help some vendor, that’s in need of something.

I was visiting with him for a few minutes and he stands up and says, “My feet are killing me, am going to go over and buy a set of inserts for my shoes.”

I said, “I’ll go with you, where are you going?”

He said, “A company call Sheep Feet.”

I said, “Are you serious……..”

So off we go. When we get there I said to the young lady, “How much are these?”

She says, without batting an eye, $275.00

Cough! “What did you say?”

Yep, $275.00

Long story short, we each bought a set, and she gave us a 20% discount. Nice!

As promised, I asked why they weren’t giving you a free set, every year, for using your video to prompt their product. She definately remembered you and laughed. She said, well we can’t give him a free pair but he’ll definitely get a good discount!

I couldn’t even tell her your name……. ?

Anyway, looking forward to getting my inserts and seeing if they’ll help with some of my walking/sore feet issues.

Thank you very much for your suggestion.

It’s alright bud, I lose a lot of folks. You’re perfectly fine, don’t get down on yourself.

It was only slightly funny the first time.

Get off your couch and away from your Xbox and go take an elk head count since you're right in the epicenter ?

You guys know you can buy this online right?
what can’t you buy online?

somebody apparently bought an Arizona mule deer tag for $750,000.00 online?

at least at the expo you can taste test whether you want the mild, hot, or thermal, I haven’t see that opinion offered online……. yet. Nothings impossible thought, maybe next year. ?

Yep…. and nobodies mention yet…. another benefit of the salsa mix is the price. Compare the best selling salsa price below.

A can of diced tomoatoes for $1.39 plus a half a table spoon of salsa mix for about .25 -.50 a dose. Total comes to $1.89 vs $5.49 And……. You make as hot or mild as you want it.

This from a guy that just dropped $250 for a set of shoe insoles………

With all the Salsa banter, I also looked em up and made an online purchase after seeing all the hype. Hopefully there’s some H & H Salsa lounge wear and Flattys in the future, could be the next big thing on the Mountain. Mad respect to all the Salsateers for plugging it in the thread.
You mean you don’t have to hit the expo to indulge in a fresh shot of over the boarder spice?

I agree, the elite Youtubers of the hunting industry need to capitalize on this entrepreneurial push. Imagine the possibilities with an new line of Mtn Ops Salsa verde dry mix… add a cup of water, shake, and pound. Wash down with a bag of Hushn’ tortilla-style Antelope-backstrap flavored chips for the full party in your mouth.

Bess, we’re not sure why anyone goes to a corrupt party anymore. Please enlighten us. I’m doing a research paper on the topic.
Let’s just pick a 1000 of the expo participants and ask them. You’ll get a 1000 different reasons, the same as if you ask people why they go to the Sun Dance Film Festival, last week, the NBA All Stars game in two weeks, or the International Sports Show in March.

The majority guys who spent $725,000, $500,000, $195,000, $65,000, $15,000, $5,000, or $25 for something they can buy for next to nothing, by comparison, don’t think it’s corrupt. You can buy a great deer tag in Arizona for less than $50,000 and go to the International Sports Show for $10.00. Apparently you’re hypothetical research paper is gonna be full of hypothetical research.

By comparison, as the the 200 tags raffle ticket numbers, Sheep Camp numbers, the vendor numbers, the gate numbers from year 1, year 5 and this year, the Expo has grown and grown and grown…….

Salsa booths were busy…….. but I never had to wait for more than an hour at either location………. ??? hypothetically of course. No more hypothetical than your corruption claim.

Corruption calling out corruption?

The difference in all those examples you gave is in the exploitation of our public resource. I find it interesting the guys that whine the loudest about the management in the state are the first in line to support the Sexpo?

Here’s the answer, I’m not saying you have to like it. I’m saying you should like it. I’m not saying how effective it is or if it could be more effective. Am I saying State management bureaucracies are always write or always wrong. I guarantee you have no love for Big Game management in the State of Utah. Have I ever called it corrupt or do I believe it is corrupt……. I have not. I do not. Do I think it’s misguided and lost it way, absolutely, but corrupt, no.

Having said that, here’s the answer to your question, as simply stated as I can say it:

The Expo concept and mission is to use a small percentage of the State natural big game and fishing resources to grow and improve the State’s natural big game and fishing resources.

That’s the answer!

Beyond that:

Next question should be: Is it working?

Well 200 brings a lot of people together and raises a huge amount of cash. That has worked.

Lots of the public spend, and/or donate millions of dollars to the concept. Those donors must believe those million they donate are being used to their satisfaction in as much as many of the do it over and over again , year after year. They may not be the kind of folks you or I like but……… how many criminals would be inclined to pay $350,000.00 for a mule deer tag when they could buy one for $50,000.00 from a private landowner/outfitter? Unless you think the buyers anre all completely insane, you’d have to come to the conclusion that the high-end buyer don’t believe it’s corrupt. I think it’s a little insane that you seem to think the buyer is either corrupt or insane. I don’t.

Now, if you want to get down in the weeds and talk about what is a conservation expense, or what is a fish, or is a cougar vermin or big game, etc, that’s an entirely different discussion.

If you want to argue which management plan is better burning junipers or grinding them. If you want to argue which fish to stock in Fish Lake, rainbows or Kokanee or both, that’s a different matter.

If want to argue whether managing elk for 385” bulls or two year olds, that’s a different matter.

So far as justifying the Expo based in the concept of using the resource to improve and expand the resource, and believing that it’s a corrupt system and a corrupt State agency, a corrupt legislature, a corrupt governor or a corrupt group of conservation organizations, I simply disagree.

Of course everyone has a right and the opportunity to say what they believe and why and……. we do……… from the present and pass four Governors right down through the media and the least interested hunter or non-hunter.

As I’ve said for many many years, countless times, to countless friends and neighbors…… if you have proof of corruption, it shouldn’t be too difficult to find a legal avenue to get it stopped. Otherwise, calling wolf gets less and less effective the more often you do it, and it has been a whole lot. The Expo, its concept and its players have been called corrupt for over ten years, in that time it has done nothing but grow, and raise more money. How efficiently it has been spent would give 1000 different opinions by a 1000 different people.

Come up with a better cincept and see what you can do, in concept and execution of concept. You would be loved and hated if you did, that’s a guarantee.

Randy Newburg & the RMEF had a pretty dam good “concept”. But when the corruption goes all the way up to the governor’s office, there’s not much they could do.

I went for the salsa?

Another 1 of a 1,000 opinions. Actually, I think it’s the Attorneys General that you should be frustrated with, but there’s been a new one elected, maybe he’ll see it your way. You should give him a call. While you’re on the phone tell him how Arizona put a stop to it…………. and now they send a small percentage of tags, they pull out of their system, to raise money for their wildlife projects. I think one of those was sold at the expo in Salt Lake for over $700,000.00. Crazy huh!

You should call Arizona Attorneys General and report the corruption crossing their borders from the north now too. Just saying. Send money from Utah into Arizona. Get it stopped asap.

It was you praising Arizona, as I recall.

So Zim, Wyoming sells raffle tickets for big game tags for $100 a ticket, buy all you want. Have you bought any? Wyoming’s concept is to sell raffle tags for $100 each, Utah sells tags for $5 each. Which is more corrupt, in your one of a 1,000 opinions.

EASY There Wiff!

I Also Went For The Salsa!:D

And Since It's The Only Legal Gambling In This State,I Gambled Just a Little!

One of My Questions is This:

If They Can Auction Off 4 Oak Creek Deer Tags at the HUNT-EXPO?

How Many Oak Creek Deer Tags Altogether are Being Auctioned Off throughout The State at All The Other Banquets & Other Auctions?

Seems Like Quite a Few When it's a Smaller Number Of Tags Allocated For The Big Game Draw?

Does anybody Know How Many Extra Oak Creek Deer Tags there are on Top Of The Big Game Draw Number of Tags?

The difference in all those examples you gave is in the exploitation of our public resource. I find it interesting the guys that whine the loudest about the management in the state are the first in line to support the Sexpo?

I think there are some good things that come from the expo. I can't say I've never been, I won't disagree with you that it is an effective way to raise money for conservation. An accounting on where all that money goes shouldn't be too much to ask for imo. We can agree to disagree, and I'm glad you found a good salsa recipe and had fun.

Wyoming’s concept is to sell raffle tags for $100 each, Utah sells tags for $5 each. Which is more corrupt, in your one of a 1,000 opinions.
How much of Wyoming's money goes to "personnel, policies, and procedures?"

You crazy guys that went to the expo for the salsa. You know you can order H&H 30 second salsa off the internet. I’ve been doing it for a while. Now next year you won’t have to go to the expo.??

Sounds like the blind leading the bind. Sorry your one of them. Have fun donating your money to the $$ whores behind the scenes.

So off we go. When we get there I said to the young lady, “How much are these?”

She says, without batting an eye, $275.00

Cough! “What did you say?”

Yep, $275.00

Long story short, we each bought a set, and she gave us a 20% discount. Nice!
Whoa--that seems to me like that's about double what I paid for them last year. Scary that the that these inserts are more expensive then the actual shoes, but at least they're transferable. Sorry about that--I sure hope they work for you and your grandson.

At the recommendation of my podiatrist friend (who actually really liked the Sheep Feet once he saw them), one other thing that I did was lay one of the those cheap (less than $5 at Walmart) foam insoles on top of them. That advice may have been specific for me because I was about to try to hike 3,000 miles, but it also helped.

After 3,000 miles, mine were cracked and showing their wear in a few places, so I sent an email to Sheep Feet and asked if they still had my mold. They said they did (they keep them for a year), so I was able to order a new pair. Pretty sure I didn't pay $275 for those either though...

Not an opinion, just a fact. The MM archives are full of all the evidence one needs. And the list of scandals that will never be forgotten, very long. AZ didn’t put a stop to it, we never let it infect the state to begin with. It ended in 2012 before HB2072 could be passed. Not a mystery Utah is #1 in wealth tags. But many don’t realize WY is an easy #2. So what’s your point? I know absolutely nothing about Utah’s AG, but given the governor is corrupt, I certainly expect the AG is as well. I suppose you’re going to defend the Expo contract award fiasco next? ? Or deny it ever happened? Good lord I don’t need to say anything more. You’re diggin your own hole, and everyone knows it.

Interesting concern. Legitimate concern too. Your one in a thousand opinion apparently is, there is not enough accountability for all that money. My 1 in 1,000 opinion is there is plenty accountability.

I don’t believe a single government employee, from the governor down to the custodian at the DWR and anyone in between would risk their job, a prison sentence, their integrity, their family etc etc to cover up corruption for anyone involved in handling the funds raised and expended by the conservation organizations that hold the expo. Would you be stupid enough to cover up a crime for some guy that you know is been watched by a 1000 haters, waiting to pounce the second a crime is committed. Apparently you have a pretty lofty opinion of your own integrity and a pretty low one of everybody else in the State. I don’t, I don’t think they are ALL corrupt, let alone one or two of them.

There are contracts that are binding in these programs. Auditors and State Attorneys hold these people to their signed agreements. Media journalist demand independent audits, they’ve had them. You must believe the State audits and attorneys are either all corrupt or they are incompetent idiots and guys in the background are criminal genius. I guess you do, I don’t.

If you want to see the check book, sorry, it’s not going to happen. Go visit with the State Purchasing Department and see how far you get telling them you want public access to the Expo organization’s check book….. written into the next contract. Let us know how far you get with that request.

Accountability is required, it’s monitored and the contractual agreements are and have been met, in the past and in the present. Those that need the contracted accountability to be met are getting the accountability required by contract. The required public accountability is been met, as required by the law.

In your 1,000 opinion, it’s not enough, in mine it is.

There’s not much more I can say to this issue, it’s not as if it hasn’t been hashed out every year for the duration of the expo. Research the length and depth of the accusations and claims of corrupt, it’s not difficult to do.

The State’s satisfied, so am I. Your not, that’s your right.

I’m gonna go get some crackers and a little salsa, would you care to share some on your next trip there Paradise?

It’s okay, nobody put a gun to my head, if they help with my problems it will be the best money spent, if not, I’ll keep looking.
