Imagine if there wasn't a commercial market, then you wouldn't care and the mice would eat it.

The only reason 90% of dudes pick up antlers is for money.

TO SELL TO THE CHINESE, who supposedly your not a fan of. Why then do you care if they go without that horn?

I Pick Em Up Because I Can & Will!

FYI China Hasn't Got F'N SQUAT From Me on Antlers!

You should start an influencer career picking up sheds. It would be a hell of an icebreaker post. China has pics of you from the weather balloon euroing the spike you got this year. They also confirmed the books herds are no good from the balloon.

Bess, I give you permission to pick it up for safety reasons. Wouldn’t want a nature lover to fall on it and puncture a lung.

Well Part of Your Post Is True!:D

Did It Take a China Spy Balloon To Confirm The Condition of The Book Cliffs?

euroing the spike
Now That's Some Funny Sshitt Right There!:D

Im sure someone will beat you to it

If someone hasn't trespassed to get it then i would find a dog to drag it back to the house.

LOL But True!

I Had The Same Thing Happen The Year They Started The Shed Season!

I Had To Let That Shed Lay There Until It Was As White as A China Balloon!

??. You would really suck at the game of clue…

Does the ban apply to private land? I guarantee you a farmer isn’t going to run one thru his combine header if he can help it.

I found a shed in the middle of the FS road last year about a week before the season opened. Figured with my luck it would be the one with the microchip. For safety reasons I tossed it off the road.

Colorado farming sure must be different. I don't know a lot of Utah farmers combining the snow

Hey Blue?

Did You Hide It really Good & Go Back after Season Opened & Retrieve It?

It was still there the next week.

I just read that the ban applies to private land as well. I ain’t no lawyer, but this is as dumb as making me put a sign at my birdfeeder warning regulated game species not to trespass.

Time for all you Utah civil libertarians to see if you really do own your land.

I’m not sure. Regular folks might say not. Fishcops would probably agree with you.

Technically it’s illegal (here) to have a shed in your possession in the field. I’m not sure I own a truck that doesn’t have a shed laying around in it. Strike 2.

If I keep this up they might have a thread about me on MM. :)

Game laws apply to private ground

Usually shed in April. Argue all you want, but its a fact that sheds can be hell on a header - much worse than a baler.

They can. But since the ban goes to April 1, there's a month or so before winter wheat gets cut. And it's months before first crop.

And if you really think farmers are letting a horde of flatbrimmers run all over their winter wheat chasing Asian gold, I don't know what to tell you.

Farmers tossing horns into the rockpile ain't the issue here. The new crop of horn merchants(I mean dudes out exercising) is.

So Hossy?

You're Sayin I Can't Pick The Shed Up In My Field?

Can you shoot a deer in your field?

Pick up and move out of the way of your "combine"?

Or pick up and sell to antler trader?

There's a difference and everyone knows it

Get a flarbrim. Your excuses and theirs are the same

Stipulated that this is a dumb argument.

That said, if you think it’s ok to tell a farmer he can’t work ground until May 1, or that he has to go around the shed laying in his field, you are a pinko commie.

And send me a pic of you in your flatty mowing around the shed n your yard until you can move it in May.

Im amazed that people will burn down our democracy over a shot nobody made you get, but this is ok.

Im gunna buy another apple tree and bird feeder while I’m still free.

I have seen corn combined in the snow, but it is unlikely that it will be much of an issue. I try to pick up the antlers on the fields early in spring when it is easy to find them. Some times I miss a few and they end up in the equipment. Would be missing quite a few if I had to wait until May when on some years there is already substantial new growth.
The problem with the shed season is it doesn't address the real problem. Picking up a shed does not stress wildlife, people on the winter range can, Sheds may be the reason of the people are there, but a shed hunter does no more damage than a photographer, birdwatcher, lion hunter and many others. If you are serious about protecting wildlife when they are vulnerable, you need close the winter range to all activity's.

Yeah. The problem with shed hunting is dudes on combines?

It's not the hordes of instafamous clowns desperate for content, and their stupid followers trying to get rich selling voodoo horns to Chinese healers?

I'd prefer just banning the trafficking in antlers all together. Then the 15 or so dudes that shed hunt because they want exercise or because their wives love massive piles of white bones laying in the yard, can do what they did before.

But, since your so concerned. Can you post your address so Utah guys can express their freedom and pick up sheds under your feeders?

The DWR doesn't have that authority.

But let's be honest. You clearing your field isn't the problem.

The commercial market is. Without it, almost no one cares about horns.

Has the authority to stop lion hunting, is the lion season closed?
With out area closures the shed season is and effort in futility.

I was told we have a problem with lions eating too many deer. Seems like shutting lion season to save deer ain't a bright idea.

Like I said, and history has shown. When there's a commercial market around wildlife, wildlife loses every time.

Further. Why the hell does the DWR need to tell "sportsmen" to stop harassing stressed deer? Wth is wrong with modern sportsmen that they see a buck in belly deep snow and their first thought isn't "that poor sob", it's " man a matching set will bring some good cash and IG likes?"

The application of the shed hunting activity restriction could be a problem for the guy on the combine.

I’m just consistently against ridiculous restrictions against your enjoyment of your private property rights.

You go right on ahead and mow around that metaphorical shed ‘cause the man made you.

And I'm against the continuous desire to commercially profit of of wildlife.

Which is the WHY of a shed ban to start with.

Please explain how the shed ban affects the supply* and demand for sheds. I think it’s to keep people off the winter range - regardless their commercial interests.

*I’m especially interested in your long-term price predictions based on the increased supply from the winter range restrictions. I love macro internet population estimates.

Antlerradar said all that needs to be said. Except that if y’all had more guides and outfitters maybe there wouldn’t be so many survivors trashing up the countryside.

I'm not for legalizing heroin because theirs a demand either.

Explain to me the positive FOR WILDLIFE of shed hunting.

I'm not interested in whether or not antler trader is in BUISNESS or not. His BUISNESS profits from exploiting wildlife.

Do you worry the waterfowl meat markets died after Lacey? The Buffalo hunters unemployment rate after ending that?

If you want to sell horns, buy a ranch, raise elk, sell what you want.

I don't know about Utah, but around here many lion hunters turn the dogs lose and don't kill the lion if it is too small, Sometimes they turn lose the dogs just for practice. Sounds like a lot of stress on the deer and no reduction in lions. Maybe we should make a law that if you tree a lion you have to kill it.
The worst I have ever seen deer stressed on winter range was when some one turned lose a pack of baying hounds in the bottom of a canyon. Every deer in the canyon was up and running as if they had a fire under their tail in a matter of minutes.

A shed season will decrease the quantity of antlers found, especially those big brown ones. This in turn will drive up the price and make more people willing to bend the rules and participate in unethical behavior.

This conclusion works if antler quantity is a function of time available to be afield. You could just as correctly assume it’s a function of buck numbers.

I’m not buying that the 60 days shortened time from “field to table” causes such a severe quality deterioration to affect prices. But I also don’t buy, sell, or snort sheds, so what do I know.

I completely agree with keeping knuckleheads off the winter range. However, I completely oppose a bullshit restriction on what I can and can’t do with animal waste left on my property.

Last saturday I went chukar hunting in an area that I hunt fairly often and the deer were hightailing out of the area like I've never seen before. Well after hearing the hounds bawling it was obvious the hounds had the deer more spooked than I have ever seen them before. They were busting it up in some of the higher areas where the snow was deep. There's usually quite a few deer in this area and I have hunted chukars here for years but have never seen the deer as spooked as they were Saturday. The deer really don't get too bothered as long as I keep a little distance. I'm not against hounds but I was surprised how much they had the deer running.

I don't care either way. But. I can make an argument that chasing and/or killing hounds can be beneficial for deer.

What's the shed hunters argument?

It’s not that you don’t care it’s that you don’t know what you’re talking about.

There are a lot of shed hunters that do not hunt so that a benefit. It puts value on a resource that may not otherwise be known by said individual. Guys out watching deer for sheds catch poachers. They shoot coyotes. They keep the deer warm by keeping them moving. Ever fell down and get gored by a shed antler? Nope. Thank a shed hunter.

Ya.

Natives believed in hanging them in trees for spiritual reasons.

Ever think the instafamous shed hunters are send to us as a punishment for not offering up horns?

Yeah, I can go deep

LMMFAO!

GOOD GAWD I Just SPEWED MY DEW!

It seems the Instagram hunters really bother you and live inside your head for free. I suggest deleting the app. You’ll live a happier life no doubt.
