I’ll be honest here. I follow most laws in life but sometimes I like to drive over the speed limit. And if I lived in a state with a shed law I would not obey by it. Just being honest.

True. We both know people who have really benefited from the shed seasons haha. I would like to see it changed to April 15th personally. May 1 we are hunting brown bears…
 
Until Fish & Game in the states that have a posted shed season add JAIL time & Big AZZ fines with breaking the law the ONLY people this affects is the ones that follow the law !!!

The market mostly for the U.S. has been for dog chews the last 10 years bud.



China has mostly bought from Russia and other countries the last 4-8 years!



Social media has ruined it! even 10 years ago there was tons of people pounding every winter range!



Back 25-30 years ago was nice to let 30-80 bulls shed then go in and spend 3 days picking them all up!

You’re just upset because since the MDF was created the mule deer population has been on a steady decline. Coincidence? All those banquets, all those auction tags, what have they got us? Lowest the mule deer population has ever been. For every sleeve you cut off your shirt slammy a mule deer dies. Kinda puts things in perspective doesn’t it?

it’s not MDF’s or Slam Dunks shirt sleeves that are to blame but every thing else you said is true. MDF, SFW as well as half a dozen or more organizations, big and small started with the best of intentions to grow and propagate more mule deer. It was a honest and the primary objective by everyone of them….. that l’ve seen or heard of.

So who’s been responsible for the 45 year decline?

Who’s been hired and paid to do the job?

We can dance and prance and point fingers at a lot of people but the only ones that are factually accountable are the State’s people that are hired to run the bureaucracies and are given the specific responsibility make the decisions and to do the job.

Nothing in the big game world, in North America is natural, nor has it been since the mid 19th century. It’s all human manipulated, and humans are the final manipulators. The States employees are the those manipulators, not the Conservation humans.

States have the final say……… pure and simple.

On a side note and speaking of MDF, both the BLM and the USFS partnered with us and is funding them with $65 million dollars over the next five years for projects.

$5m from BLM
$60m from USFS

They didn't join us because Conservation doesn't work, they wanted a partnership because it does.

Clearly you do not know what actually is the Darwin Award. Maybe instead of cutting off your sleeves and attending “fundraisers” to kill deer you look into something before you use it as an attempt to burn someone online.

Go back to raising money by killing off what you’re trying to protect. It’s for conservation after all. Why can’t the big money be raised without giving out the tags, rifles etc?

Ten years ago, when I was still trying to grow mule deer populations in Utah, I complained to the MDF Director, asking him, “why doesn’t the MDF attend and support hunting management strategies that will stop the decline of mule deer populations?” (Paraphrased)

His answer, (Paraphrased) was, because the MDF’s mission is to forces its efforts on healthy mule deer habitat, it is not and will never be involved in decisions on how the any State choses to manage hunters, or hunting tags.

I believe that is a very safe mission. Who would ever find fault with that objective? Taking a position on hunter management and tag allocation is always going to be a hostile volatile environment to act in. Some conservation organizations choice to help in different ways and their mission statements reflect their work.

Regarding finding other ways to raise money, by raffling or auctioning tags and other things, etc………. There is nothing stopping anyone from developing a way to do that with out tags and auction.. I’m not so sure they’re already some smaller, less successful, mule deer conservation groups that have been doing just that, for decades. If not, there is certain not one stopping anyone from doing it. Certainly there seems to be a lot of folks that would like to see that happen. If my memory service me right there was a group here in Utah that said they had thousands of members, (maybe it was hundreds, I’m not sure) that tried to do just what you’re advocating. I think there are still a few that were part of that group that still look in here once in a while. They may be willing share their experience raising money for mule deer issues.

Not looking for a fight here, just responding as politely as I know how to, to your question.

And instead of advising me to study the correct description of an award given to stupidity, you might want to do a little studying of your own and research what MDF or any of the other Conservation groups have accomplished and how they work before adding to your lack of competence by spewing more nonsense.

The Darwin Award is given to someone that died doing something stupid. Like dying cutting off their sleeves. Please be careful doing such. Live your censored life. Always thought guys with cut off sleeves were tough ?

Have you ever seen a criminal obey the law? It’s like gun control, it’s not about the guns. It’s about control. Deer numbers are down each year. They will keep going down. People are just to ignorant to the fact that they’we cause most of the problems we face
