I want to keep it simple and classy ( no turrets)
Have a leopold 2-7x30 and my older eyes probably need a little more magnification any featherweight owner suggestions, retired budget ???

I’ve got a couple featherweights , both have Burris Fullfield E1 4.5-14x42 on them. Still have the lifetime warranty and if you know where to look they can be bought for under $200 new. I have 9 of these scopes on everything from a 17 hmr to 270 WSM to 50 cal muzzleloaders , no complaints !

3.5 x 10 or 4.5 x 14 VX3 Leupold. Either is pretty light even with the 30mm main tube.

Scopes are such a personal thing that you'll survey 20 guys and get 20 good answers.

Laugh all you want. Both of those are excellent, proven, set and forget scopes. Both LOW built out of Japan, known for reliability and zero retention. Unlike Leupold unfortunately.

I would also add the Meopta Meopro and Zeiss conquest, 3–9 to the mix.

To the OP, I know you said no turrets, do capped turrets count? If that’s OK, go with a Nightforce SHV 3–10 x40 and never look back.

I searched far and wide for the lightest, high-quality scope with a turret. The Z3 4-12x50, at 14.5 oz, is the lightest one.

I keep hoping someone points out a similarly capable scope that is lighter!

With scopes, lightweight typically means lack of durability. It’s an unfortunate reality. The things needed to make a scope rugged and reliable like thick tube walls and metal erector assemblies weigh more, plain and simple. There’s a lot more to a scope than ounces and glass quality. Mechanical soundness trounces glass. Once you’ve spent over $4-500 or so, all glass is good enough, yet truly reliable scopes stand out on their own. If you value something that holds zero, returns to zero properly and dials and tracks correctly, through the inevitable bumps and bangs that happen while hunting hard, you’ll probably need something that’s a bit heavier. Especially if you want dialable turrets. You can deny this fact (here come the “I’ve been using Leupold and a Swarovski scopes for 40 years” guys) but eventually it will catch up with you and you’ll come to the same conclusion. I sure did.

I suppose. If I were 20 years younger, and didn't mind carrying the extra weight on that 10 mile hunt, I might pick a heavier gun/rifle combo. But when I look at the 9 pound combo vs the 7 pound combo, the decision is pretty simple when I shoulder that puppy.

Now if I were hunting from a vehicle, or from a stand, or from sniper's nest (none of which I do)- the heavier combo would be just fine.

And, in fact (here it comes), I've only used Leopolds and Swaros for exactly 40 years, with no problems. Guess I'm just lucky!

I wish Nightforce had more offerings with a 42-44 mm objective. mtmuley
There’s a lot of things I wish NF would do. Great scopes but there are definitely some gaps in the lineup. If I had to pick one, it would be a 30mm ATACR line.

There is the SHV and NXS with 42mm objectives. Those aren’t to your liking?

I understand that, I had a 7# rifle for backpack and big mountain hunts, and went through three different scopes trying to keep it light and yet still make it do what I wanted it to do, stretch out to 4-500 max. I finally gave in. It is now a 7.25# rifle and wears a NF NXS compact. And guess what, it absolutely shoots better than it did before with those few extra ounces and greater scope capabilities. I don’t notice the extra 4-5 ounces until I actually hit the target repeatedly, unlike before.

It still won’t do true long range work like my heavier rigs will, but there’s always a tradeoff. This is one I’m willing to accept. A scope that’s lighter, yet doesn’t work, is not!

I've looked at the SHV. I think the short length would require me to use a rail. That's something I don't want to do. mtmuley

There are two piece rails out there. If your receiver holes are true, that might work for you.

FWIW, I used to be anti rail too. Once you get used to them, they aren’t a hindrance, they don’t add any meaningful weight with 7075 aluminum and they are absolutely a better mounting platform than most other systems out there.
