Just kidding!

Really just so dang excited that my son accidentally drew a late rifle tag that i put him in for just to get his point cuz his odds were so low and he was already too busy with other hunts. Fortunately, he deer hunted 27 last year and so we know the roads somewhat. And his uncle had this same hunt last year. Meant to be, I guess. We’ll report back the results in December.

That is awesome! Great unit. Did you hunt mule deer or coues deer there?

Mule deer. Here’s the post I made of his mule deer in 27…

I hunted there early archery. WOW and I do mean WOW. It was the year after the fire, about 7 years ago. I saw over 30 bulls. 1 spike, 1 or 2 raghorns, everything else 280, most over 300. Unreal. No idea for late rifle but my guess is get away from roads.

Congratulations to your son for drawing a good hunt. As you already know unit 27 is one of Arizona more physically demanding units. Many people say unit 27 and 23 are the two toughest units in the state to hunt. The fire Don V is referring to is the Wallow fire that occurred in 2011. Like most fires, it created better habitat conditions for all the wildlife. Good Luck to your son and take lots of pictures.
