Decades ago several companies were experimenting with electric actions and ammo. The ammo was actually ignited by an explosive which was set off with electricity. I think most of the experiments were centered around military use. I think around the same time there was a lot of experiments with square bullets.

Novel- but it's hard to imagine what problem was being solved or how it would be better than a standard primer.
