State Network Issues?

Yep, those who didn't get around to it after half a dozen reminder emails just got a reprieve. Just great. Announced via email.

I guess the extra week extension added to this year deadline wasn't enough. The past several years the deadline has been on the 3rd Wednesday of March. This year it fell on the 4th Wednesday of the month.

There will be 20,000 more apps now! Oh I will go ahead and apply for oryx and put my wife in for elk etc

You guys are being too hard on this! Don’t you feel bad for the residents that were too drunk, too high, or incarcerated? You can’t expect people to actually remember the deadline AND apply more than a day before it. Everybody deserves an A+ and as much time as they WANT to put in for tags (which should be free now that we’re talking about it).

You guys see how many people on FB complain about lack of paperback proclamations or asking when the deadline is? I say if you can’t figure it out and use online publications or read the online calendar then how can you tell the difference between a couse deer or mule deer. This department goes above and beyond to accommodate stupid and lazy people. Getting your app in on time is part of the process of drawing a tag.

Well, this is my first year applying in NM (3 weeks early I might add). It's somehow strangely comforting to see that NM is no better than AZ or WY when it comes to application weirdness...

NMG&F is located in Santa Fe …..liberals full of #@&$. This doesn’t surprise me. That’s probably the best excuse they could come up with.
You will never get a tag again in your life... are you insane or what ???

There's a fox hole and if you stick your head above the parapet... chances are heads explode... Me personally, I love everything NM Game and Fish or whatever it's called does :)

Cheers, Pete

No need to worry about your draw odds tanking fellas. I’ve been reading about a mass migration of hunters leaving the state. In a few short years those of us stupid enough to remain will draw every tag we apply for……even if they extend the draw deadline a whole day.

You just might be right ???
Good luck all!

I’m on the “out of here” list also. This is my last draw as a resident. Incompetent (and downright evil) state policy and “leaders” is the primary catalyst for my move.

Bob, the state has an obligation to provide a working system until the deadline and then to honor the deadline. They have no obligation to extend.

If you had a dinner reservation at 5 and were late because there was traffic on the way would you think the restaurant was obligated to seat you at 6 or at 5 the next day. I sure wouldn’t!! If you wait until the last minute (or day) to do something and miss the deadline it is your own fault! This is another example of NM striving to accommodate the slackers at the expense of the motivated.

Sorry, I just don’t think the deadline extension is a big deal.

I don’t think that most people that overloaded the system yesterday did so because they were too drunk, stoned or incarcerated to apply earlier.

Some forgot, and that doesn’t deserve a 2nd chance!!

I bet most people trying to apply yesterday did so bc they didn’t want to be out of the app fees for months…..I do think that’s a legit reason to submit a late app (admittedly, if I was in that boat I wouldn’t have waited until the last day).

Oh yeah, and GF should have a functioning system until the deadline. WHAT IF someone had planned for months to submit their app on 3/22, for whatever reason, because that’s what was published in the regs. They got screwed……thus a single day extension is valid.

Some of you bitchin right now will have a great draw, and should be grateful the cards fell as they did. Some may get a potential fortune overturned……it’s all a roll of the dice.

Oh, and some will bitchin that they NEVER draw tags when their 3 elk hunt choices were all in the caldera, can’t wait to hear that stupid s*** again.

i Have a feeling draw numbers where down so they made one last push . Just my 2cents
Well no , but good theory. The state server was down for 4 hours and 10 minutes , and those customers trying to access their accounts for many reasons , draw apps , fishing licenses , military documents , mobility impaired documents, but mostly applicants etc were not able too. Dept. management had to make the decision. As unpopular as it was, the departments customers ( you all) should have a operating system whether you entered the draw on January 18th or if they waited until March 22. The server went down not allowing them access. Many are upset as expected but for those who were locked out , well now they have the opportunity to get in.

Any how , can someone point me to a turkey spot ? bahahaha cheers ...Rio

The deadline was already a week later than it has been for years. On top of that NMDGF has reminded us for MONTHS via email and announcements on their website. If this was so important to you and for some unbelievably obscure reason the only date you could possibly apply was yesterday, and you didn't have the foresight to come up with another plan to get it done sooner, well then it really wasn't all that important to you. Tough.

Also, I heard the extension was related to applications done via phone? As in not enough telephone bandwidth or operators standing by? Who in this day and age calls NMDGF to tell them their applications over the phone?

NAILED IT !!! Had zero to do with last minute applicants ...

Rio, give me a call and I’ll share a turkey spot that we’ve literally killed dozens of birds at in the last 15 years. I’m moving out of state and won’t have a chance to get back there…

Yeah, if the state allows you to keep the privilege to hunt the way it currently is...

Anyone know if you can change an app once it's submitted? Just talking to a friend that put in as a group and his group "friend" backed out after my friend applied so he was wanting to change the units he applied for. He's looking into it but thought I'd ask here in case someone knows and doesn't slam me for not looking in the regs.

He needs to delete the app and re-create. Needs to be done by 5 PM today. After 5 he can still delete the app but won't be able to recreate.

An old lifelong NM rancher told me this several years ago before he passed away.
The NM Game & Fish Regulations are a lot of good suggestions.
I think you can figure out what he meant by that statement in relation to the State changing his hunting opportunities.
Obviously, everyone can't have that attitude but it was comical hearing a 90 yo man's opinion on the State limiting his hunting habits.

So all you guys vacating NM are going to really screw up the NR draw odds. Maybe we need a ruling where residents can not apply as a NR for 10 years after they leave NM. ?????

Didn't put in for any hunts here for the first time I can remember. It'll be nice to just buy OTC tags at our new location for the first time in a very long time. Even for hunting I have no desire to come back here. Good luck all.

What makes you think any of "us" are going to apply as NR's in the future?

I can relate when it comes to them deciding for me of what rifle, handgun, or magazine I can own...

Had a buddy draw the 1 in 4,500 odds guided MT mule deer hunt given away by HF yesterday so it inspired me to tack on the works, including sheep & exotics, in New Mexico with 20 minutes left in extended deadline. ? Like that will change anything.

All unrealistic except for one muzzleloader deer hunt (27%) that overlaps nice with my WY gen. I’m very familiar with the unit too. Now just need a tiny smidge of luck, for which I am well overdue. Ten years worth.

March 1st this year was on Wed. Should've been the 15th this year.

Every year since they started pushing people to apply through FB they have been having record breaking app numbers...

...and they celebrate it as though it's some kind of victory. Having no point system is a double edge sword. It makes it to where anybody can jump in without having to "pay the price" of not playing the game early on.

But it's a non-issue, the same number of tags will be given to the same amount of people. Their benefit is from more dollars scored on app fees.

I agree with you except for when it comes to a point system. Look at what it takes for a Colorado resident to even be in the arena to compete for a moose tag. I’d rather apply every year than to spend the next ten years buying points for an elk tag, 20 years for a pronghorn, etc. right now I draw elk at least once every three years, that will end with a point system. The point system works in Colorado because they have a lot more animals than we do. Hell talk to anyone that lives in a point System state and see what they have to say about point creep

I agree. The no point system is why there is an increase in apps every year. Nobody is penalized for entering late or skipping a year or two and jumping back in.

That is a valid point, and definitely some truth to that. Considering that so many people need FB to remind them to apply or they don’t know how to find the online publications, I’m sure adding the purchase of a point just might be a bridge too far for them. I think making hunter safety mandatory in order to apply would help a lot. I thought hunter safety was beneficial and some people need lessons on etiquette and ethics while hunting.

Cant express enough how important it is that a first year appliclant has the same odds to draw a tag as the rest of us. There is no “ earning your dues to go hunting”. Preference point systems will kill our sport to where only a small # of people will be applying. Most folks who have 15 points in one state have just as many in other states, meaning it the same “handful” of people playing the game. We must bring newbie’s in to keep us supported. The hunting public is less than 5% of nation’s population.

More apps suck for us in short run but good thing in big picture, hope we never go preference points

Except the newbie that can't draw a tag will lose interest much sooner than someone who has drawn tags over the years...
