Jury duty

This is true. My wife just had jury duty and she didn't want to rock the boat even though it's total crap. It's only in the actual court room, like if you're brought in for questioning to be on a jury. Not elsewhere in the building. But absolutely insane.

I got summoned a few months ago for virtual jury duty. I stated in my paperwork that I used to be a law enforcement officer and the clerk put me in special virtual room with a small group. Three hours later the judge came into that virtual room and thanked us for our service. Game over for the next two years.

So I get a summons to appear for jury duty last week. It said I have to wear a mask all day in court. Guess I’ll be doing jail time because I’m not wearing a mask for anyone
You need to understand that being an American means sometimes you’re going to be asked to do things you don’t want to do or things you don’t agree with. But if this mask thing is where you draw the line then I feel sorry for you.
Try to remember that there are generations of Americans that had to endure more hardship than what you’re dealing with. Both my grandfathers, two of my uncles, and my dad got letters from the government. Fortunately it wasn’t to fulfill a duty that required a mask, but they had to go to war.
Take a moment to put things in perspective and I’m sure you will see it is not that big of a deal. Then at the end of the day after you have done your job you can rant and rave about how dumb it was, but at least you did your job.
And good luck in the draw since this is a hunting forum.

Your point is not lost on me but keep in mind, your grandfathers, your two uncles, and your dad fought so the OP could have the freedom to draw that line. What is currently, and has been, mandated on our society over the last several years has crossed a line imo.

Drew the line there DAY ONE!

I dutifully where a mask whenever I am asked by a business or gov't entity. I don't throw a fit, I don't make a protest.

But part of being an American is disagreeing with your government when you do. That's what's happening here.

During the interview process just tell them the truth what you think about snake-in-the-grass attorneys (And in my case judges). You will be the first one sent home. They are looking for ignorant puppets they can mold. For me it has worked every time. Dismissed 5 times in 15 years. Was raped by lies 24/7 during my divorce. And for years with a rental property just trying to get the rent. The last judge was like 90 and literally fell asleep w during my hearing. Failed to even look at all the invoices & estimates I submitted for evidence. All they want to do is shortcut the system by settling for 50% of my claim. Every time the same dam thing. As a consequence of their own actions, I am always the first to be dismissed from the jury selection process, simply by telling the truth. Both attorneys will dismiss you immediately, mask or not.

And those that came before them paid the price to not have a gov't impose its irresponsible will on people.

It is a big deal...

4 years military service, my families military goes back to the civil war, we still have letters that were sent home from relatives in that war. Pretty amazing to read them.Grand pa was with Gen Patton for 3 years, Dad spent a year in Vietnam, My son is active Army Green Beret 15 years, got out and went back in, Ive seen some of the guys he served with on the 6 oclock news after they were KIA, multiple combat deployments, my niece is an Arabic translator working for the DOD in the Middle East right now and that’s all she has ever told me about her job.I get the patriotic thing but Im not wearing a mask !

A friend of ours in Torrance county got arrested last week for choosing to comply with the mask mandate in jury duty.
She told them kick rocks!

Another thing is "we" all want to get out of jury duty, yet generally intelligent working class professionals are exactly the type of people we need on juries! When "everyone" tries to get out of serving we're often left with a bunch of deadbeats that get to decide the fate or consequences of our justice system...

Just for the record, I don't actively seek to get out of jury duty. And I am a working class professional. However, I am blatantly honest. I cannot lie when the attorneys ask me questions regarding my past dealings with unscrupulous lying unethical attorneys. Including some that represented me. Nor the liberal judges that screwed me simply trying to recover my owed rent. These are simply the fact of the matter, with a very large sample size. Incident after incident unethical illegal behavior. Oh, forgot the one that claimed he had an accountant on staff, when it turned out he didn't, and was totally unqualified to take my case. That dude had the gall to steal $3,500 of the retainer from me and laugh in my face. He did zero in a month. Guy was unbelievable. Can't act like that didn't happen. Facts are facts.

Oh, also left out the one where a county court set hearing dates 4 times, making me take full days off from work (6 hour round trip) only to show up and be sent home. Incinerating my submitted evidence documents as was their policy after the 2nd postponement! Then the 4th time after finally being called up, was asked if the defendant and I would agree to have a college student mediate a settlement! Gotta be crappin me. Yes this really happened. What a kangaroo court. Absolutely nothing like Judge Judy on TV. Those clean episodes are pure fantasy. :ROFLMAO:

Respect is something that is earned. You don't get mine from some sheepskin hangin in your office. Snoozing judges included.

Several times I've known one of the attorneys or an arresting officer.

I've been kicked to the curb a few times ;)

I have never made it to Grand Jury, or on a jury trial. However every 2 years I received summons for both state and federal jury duty. I retired 2 years ago, and have not received one since. At the time I was receiving the summons I was an LEO, had been sued, sued a few people myself so a few deal breakers. I had a captain who ended up on a murder trial, so I held out hope I could serve, plus get me off the road for a time.

We all get to chose the laws, regulations, rules and statutes we want comply with.
The person who chooses not to comply with Game & Fish laws can draw a line with the same convictions.

Yeah, masks weren't a "law"...

And I wasn't accusing anyone of intentionally trying to get out of jury duty, but my wife told me the excuses people were coming up with during her interviews. People had the lamest reasons as to why they couldn't serve their civic duty. Agree one can't lie or answer incorrectly when asked questions that you feel strongly about.

I have only been summoned once.
Told them I was racist.
Told them I hated everyone
Told them I will vote to convict every single time.
Never been summoned again.

I would have served had the attorneys selected me. But I was not going to lie when they asked me screening questions. I swore I'd answer honestly, and I did. They are the ones that didn't like my answers. It was their choice I didn't serve, not mine. Pretty much boils down to that.

Well, now that the idiotic health emergency has finally expired, courts are dropping the mask mandate. Guess it depends on the court now...
