From what I understand, that big one taken in Wyoming, after the mandatory dry down, is now the world record mule deer.

I also understand that the successful harvester will not be submitting this score to the B & C folks due to the circus atmosphere that is now trophy deer hunting

OK, I've heard about this hesitation to submit to B&C before. What specific fear drives that? I can't imagine what the problem is, but I'm sure somebody knows.

not sure, guess the hunter was curious about the score yet didn't want the fame or notoriety, cat calls or atta boys?!

not sure about big game trophy animals, but doesn't the world record largemouth bass pursuit get just plain whacky? threats, vandalism, online persecution..etc.

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

there isnt anyone who shoots a buck bigger than the Burris buck and a record that has stood for 50 years who wouldnt want to show it just for the sake of deer itself. . there is a big difference between printing off a score sheet and having your buddy who has "scored a lot", put a tape to it, than it is an actual official measurer. . 2 years ago a guy shot a huge typical...the same rumors were flying about new record blah blah...it net scored 208...just a little off..But at least there are pictures of that buck existing

If you do any official measuring, you will encounter bucks and bulls that actually score quite a bit less than advertised frequently.

I totally understand why someone would want to avoid all the hoopla. Just makes it hard to believe for 99% of us when there is no pic or info. The unknown hunter would have been better off keeping everything UNKNOWN.

Was stevie wonder on the official scoring panel???

Shoot, I had a couple dozen in the basement that will beat the Broder Buck, all killed on public land in Northern Utah. I never bought a camera because I didn't want the pics to end up on some crappy site like "reallybigmuleys.com" or some such nonsense.

No, you can't come see them either, so don't ask.

He could enter it. Not sure why he wouldn’t except maybe it’s not all that it was hyped up to be. I’m not upset about that. Everyone exaggerates now and then. I bet it’s big enough. As far as not wanting credit or attention? He might be able to enter it as Anonymous or Unknown. I’ve seen where the hunter is labeled as Native American. He might be able to list the hunter as American, or American, Non Native and still satisfy his desire to not get attention. If there are pictures out there of him and the deer, he could blur or pixelate the image of him like people do to the images of genitalia when the real image could be offensive.

Hey Tony!

I'm Gonna Do An Audit On Your Basement!:D

I don’t doubt it could be a world record. I’ve been in Barns, in western Kansas and eastern Colorado that have monster 200+ muleys and whiteys in them and they don’t care about the books! And the deer are not even mounted.. farmers and ranchers are different than flatbrimers!!!

LOL! Ya, that's why the dude waited for the mandatory dry, and then had it measured. Because he's a rancher who's gonna throw it in the barn.

The point is that if you don't care, or don't want publicity, you wouldn't go through all the trouble of that. At most, you might be personally curious, measure it yourself, and go "that's nice".

My truck broke down on the White river in Colorado 30 to 35 years ago and I hiked into a ranch to borrow a few tools I did not have. The old rancher and I walked into his old rough sawn shop and there were a bunch of Elk and Deer racks hanging from the rafters. There was one of the biggest framed bucks I had ever seen , we took it down and dusted it off, he had the original carcass tag still wired to it and it had been killed roughly 25 years prior. I got my truck running and drove back to the ranch and asked the old boy if I could take a picture of him and his buck. What a cool old guy and what a Buck.

Lol I have a couple of those in my garage too. Just don't want to measure you know because of the circus and all.

I haven't seen it. I suppose if the person wants to keep it a secret, ok. A photo of the deer only can't hurt, can it?
Founder to put a stop to these shenanigans I suggest pics or ban policy.

If you bring some story like this up and claim to have access. Either you post pics or your banned.

Pretty simple.

I don't doubt there are many huge bucks hanging in barns across the west and I don't doubt they were never measured and may never be measured. Maybe even some 200+ like one poster said.

But most of those deer were likely killed in a time when the focus wasn't on trophy deer that there is now. With the focus there is now someone would have seen a buck like that and there would likely be winter range pics etc.

Most of the people who chase mule deer are either looking for a big one and want the gratification and at least some recognition or they go out and kill a buck for the meat and care nothing of what others think.of them but still will show off when a monster is taken. It however takes all kinds in this world so maybe this guy and deer exist...

Some of those barn finds may have been taken during "Extended Seasons" and not during the regular hunt.
Years ago my brother ask a very successful older hunter how many bucks he'd shot in his life. After some thought he responded, During the hunt or altogether?
Common practice with some of the old timers, Sounds eerily similar to my good friend Wade Lee Mon.

Eh- it's pretty obvious when it happens. Folks make a little fun and move on. If Founder banned for exaggeration or made-up stuff, half the threads would go away! :ROFLMAO:

Say what you want but there’s a lot of giant deer in peoples houses that have never been scored. I drove for UPS for 37 years in SE Idaho. I’ve seen a lot of giant deer that people have that a family member killed. Seen a lot of big deer on archways to ranches that decomposed to chalk. That’s a ok Buck on my archway now days could be a giant. ?

Then why did you make this post? The hunter doesn’t want attention. You are creating attention. Makes no sense.

Not only that but a guy who has made a total of 7 posts (4 here) has zero credibility.

So I ask again: what is your purpose here? No real need to make a separate post about Bigfoot. Because your story has the same holes in it

Someone may have already posted this but - if it is thought to be a new world record, doesn't Boone and Crocket folks have it shipped to their headquarters and measure it before it is officially the new record.

Wow

I can send some crayons, colored pencils and markers to you guys that helped get this world record. Draw and color and the best you can and then post the picture here.

World Record entries must be scored by a panel of Official Measurers.

I've been hearing grumblings of weak front forks. Hogwash. True Giant!

Dude has huge hands too. That's a Barrett .50 cal in his hands.

I remember the mystique of hearing about a huge deer growing up. That’s why I take everything with a grain of salt these days. Personally I have entered an animal in BC and PY and I did it in pure reflection of the animal not myself. I’m just attached to him.

A DRATville/MM 227-4/8" Right There!
Now that's what I'm talking about!!

No BS about it. Solid 230" gross! Easy to see 227" typical.

Thanks DM!
thing about it is why even bring it up if not willing to show a pic? Record book aside, no reason to breath a word about it if it going to show it. Hell I’ve got the new world record non typical too. I just don’t want to show anyone.??

Wether this deer is real or not I totally agree with the stance of not sharing it at all. If I were ever to shoot anything close to a record buck I wouldn’t do anything more then get it mounted and share it with my buddies. Of which I have about 4. But I didn’t start hunting for likes ( well before there was such a thing) so I’m probably part of a dying breed

I believed you right up until you said you had 4 friends..

well....kind of....but yes

It certainly could be.....if the OM was interested in wasting his time.....but the trophy owner DID NOT leave with an official score chart.
If an OM scores a head that exceeds or is real close to B&C minimum and the trophy owner does not want to enter the trophy, the OM still sends the score sheet to B&C. This guards against score shopping.

My He/She is Not wanting the notoriety?! Or not wanting everyone to know where it was killed?! Some of the boys I know kill B&C WT also every year and the only thing they care about is keeping the Outsiders away! I have been in the some of the guy’s barns etc and I just happen to look up in the rafters and in the corners on a shelf B&C horns. I didn’t say anything until I left with Mike a local who did sub-work for me and got the locals to trust and take care of me. He told me these guys don’t give a rats ass about record book racks! That says it all!

No animal should ever be titled the world record. Maybe "The biggest ever officially scored using Boone and Crockett rules."
