Party Deer Tags

I read last year the F&W commission was discussing of enacting the "grandmother" rule for party tag applications. General purpose was to eliminate people from using what would be considered a point gathering mule to apply for a premium tag every year and drawing the tag but sending back the individual with the most points to get the points back at the same time other party members keeping their premium tag. The rule proposed was that everyone in the applying party sends their tag back or everyone loses their points. Anyone know what happened with this?

I had a guy tell me a few years ago he did this....had a buddy that was a doctor and wrote him a doctors note so he'd keep his points but family members would keep their tags. I won't say who I called next.....he must've thought we were friends or something. It was strange.

Arizona has the same thing they just make money off of it and call it point guard.

Shocked California hasn’t jumped on the band wagon.

The issue I have there is if a Father has built points and wants to have his son or daughter apply with them and get a better experience why should they be punished.

The piggybacking / donating tags and getting points back for a 2nd draw is a major issue in some states as it holds tags hostage for multiple years.

I understand about the parents wanting to hunt with kids. I am at a point where I have to buy my Dads points if I ever want him to join me in Utah, Nevada or Colorado. LOL. I guess it's payback for all the years he took me when I was a kid.

I don’t think you can return your tag in Cali and have your points restored without some type of serious medical emergency type issue

They were restoring points last year I think if the hunt was restricted by fire closures. There was a guy somewhere I read that got his points back from drawing G6....which made no sense because roads have been closed in the unit before and nobody got points back from a few road closures. ?

This is the only proposed language amendment that I can find and it is from 2022.
Section 708.14
There is a lot of proposed changes but I can not seem to find any actions by the commission to change the tag return requirements to reinstate points other than it has to be returned prior to the first day of season for that method. The committee did make a recommendation in 2022 but no actions.

Yes I am sure this subject is annoying some of you on here but it is a serious loophole that people are taking advantage of and shall be addressed.

No annoyance here. Just one of the many things in this life that people find the loopholes to get their way.
