Took quick drive up to Mammoth to escape the heat in Bishop. Could not get to lake Mary, road still snowed in. Same with Rock Creek.
Were able to get to Convect Lake.

Can’t remember seeing the sage areas looking this good before. Aspens are just starting to bud leaves. Meadows are green and lush. Was going to try and look for deer at the snow line, but never made it. Parents are both in their late 80’s. This was a five day weekend to kick butt around their house on projects and spend some time with them. Saw one collared mountain lion mid day Thursday when I went out to shoot and test some new loads just east of Bishop.

How did the new loads work on the lion??

It had a collar. I have been known to do a few dumb things in my life, but not that dumb. ???

But my loads worked great on paper. 270WSM. Shot both Barnes 110gr. TTSX and 117 gr. Hammers. Just quick shots to test for pressure and basic accuracy. Hammers did not do well. Need to change distance to lands and try again. Or just stick to Barnes.

How far off the lands did you start with the Hammers?

My 280 ai shoots the 143 gr Hammer Hunters loaded 20 thou of the lands and it'll shoot under an inch at 300 yards.

I’m my experience hammers like a shorter jump and Barnes like a longer jump. I had to load my Barnes much farther out than you have to get them to shoot under an inch. Hammers shot the best for me. They are 50 thou off if I remember right. A lot of guns shoot them better less than that though.

hmmmmm....

I don't think Hammers aren’t jump sensitive enough to cut that groups size more than in half just by a little seating depth chabge. . I’ve seen very little difference from .020 off to .100 with hammers. Just looks like the gun doesnt like them. But the Barnes looks promising!!

Id try shooting from a bench and see what kind of grouping you get. I had the same grouping with my 300wsm shooting 150's and 168's. Then I changed to 180's and its shot a lot better groups. My shoulder hurt more. I got tired of the short mag and bought a 7mm. I'm not a pro at reloading like some of the other guys on here. I'm still learning.
