I finally drew my resident bull elk tag with 12 points & lucked out on my 1st choice. I was hoping a few of you would be willing to share your experiences & input on the area.
To start, it looks like the majority of bulls taken are out of 111. A friend that helped a buddy a few years ago said that guides / sub guides were blocking access on roads in there. I want to avoid that crap, because that will simply piss me off.
I’m not turning my back on 111, but I think I will spend my scouting trips to check out 112-114.
From experience are there good numbers of elk in those other units?
I plan to contact the biologist for the region to get his input, but I appreciate actual hunting experience over what the biologist will tell me.
Thanks!

If some dumb ass "sub guide" (pimple faced flat brim kids frm Ely) blocked a road on my lifetime elk tag, there would be big problems! I've seen some great bulls in 111. Right off the main dirt rds, up high. Find a couple bulls you want to hunt, get on em early and kill one. Good luck, great tag!

I’m right there with you… I’m sure it would turn south pretty fast. I would just prefer to avoid it all the way around because I know I would lose it.

Congrats on the tag! I’ll see you there as I got lucky and drew one of the NR tags for the same hunt. I’ll be doing the same as you, trying to stay away from the crowding but I have a feeling we’re gonna run into guides and spotters everywhere, comes with the territory on special hunts like this. Good luck on the hunt, I’ll be in 111 if you get in a bind and need help.

Thanks & good luck to you too. My plan is to go to the northern end of 111-112 to start scouting. You are probably right about the guide spotters being all over come the opener. Let’s keep in touch… I will send ya a PM.

In the years I ve hunted and guided in this GREAT unit group, the further away ftom Ely, the better. Go where quads can not. groups of bulls will be near. Good Luck... Bruce & SilverGrand
I appreciate the advice. ?? NOTED! Thank you.

Just wanted to say thank you to those that have reached out to me. I’m more excited than ever for this hunt. I have been on a few OTC hunts one for rifle in Montana & the other for archery in UT. I get the feeling that this hunt will be the real deal & definitely my OIL tag for NV with the wait after drawing & my age. I’m pumped!

Don’t be afraid to talk to the guides and outfits out there. In my experience there they have all been friendly and great to talk to about roads access with weather and just animals and not specifics. Remember if you are seeing them by you you might be in a good spot as well and or they are searching for elk as they have moved from the normal spot. I will be out there again this fall chasing.

3TOE, I'll be out there for the early rifle cow hunt. Not sure how valuable the intel may be for your hunt later, but I'll pass along whatever I have nonetheless. Let's get 'em! :)

I will take any advice I can get. Thank you! Should be a fun hunt. Good luck on your cow hunt.

Except as otherwise provided in NRS 503.454, it is unlawful for a person, or a group of people acting together, to intentionally interfere with another person who is lawfully hunting or trapping. For the purpose of this subsection, hunting or trapping is “lawful” only if permitted by the owner or person in possession of the land, other than the government, in addition to any requirement of license or permit from a public authority. 2. The provisions of subsection 1 do not apply to any incidental interference arising from lawful activity by users of the public land, including without limitation ranchers, miners or persons seeking lawful recreation.

Whether it's some anti or guide, blocking a road it falls under hunter harassment. If that's the game they want to play it'll cost em.

It won’t in the end unless you decide to handle it yourself. The money is bigger than you can imagine.

That said, if someone blocked my access to something I know is public land, we’d be fighting. They would lose. And in the off chance they won, I’d win the next day via any means possible.

Never a reason to sabotage another hunter. People are rude without ethics but completely stopping someone is another level.

My son in law told me a story about guides blocking roads in person when his uncle was on a hunt in that area. Sounds like some heated words were exhanged. That's some grade AAA b.s. Kind of makes one WANT to go sabotage their hunt (in a legal way of course).

You guys aren’t making me feel any better. ???
Well… hopefully none of that BS happens, because I’m certain that it wouldn’t end well for any involved on either side.
Happy thoughts….!!!! ???

Hunted the units the last 5 years and have another tag to help this year and we haven’t ran into it. But we have conversation with many great hunters and guides out there. Good luck and enjoy the memories out there

I had this same hunt as an alternate in 2019 and the guides/sub guide issue you mentioned was super frustrating. They were everywhere! My suggestion is get to a glassing area early, and if you see a bull you like get after it quick. Lots of elk though. From what I saw guides were mostly in 111.
