Well,
I'm still 0 for 32 years of applications for random tags in multiple states. I still don't even have my Unsuccessful email from my home state of Utah. Apparently I'm such a random tag joke that there is no longer a need to inform me via email.
Did you check your UDWR portal? Could be worse. I went ten years ~35x10=350 random appls between tags before finally drawing a low tier NM deer unit this year with 27% odds. Good thing I had preference points in some states so I could cash those.

Dang some of you guys have crushed it on random tags.

I have drawn a couple.

AZ early archery elk 7 points
Ut Expo Wasatch archery elk
Utah Book Cliffs archery elk 0 points
NM 16D archery 2nd season

I have also been the only applicant to not draw a Ut archery antelope tag. 11 applicants for 10 tags. I didn’t draw until the following year. ?

Hoping for more random luck in the future.

Just luck of the draw, research, and planning. Sometimes you are the windshield, other times the bug. Drew 2 sheep tags in 2020, but other hunt in the past I would of bet money on drawing yet came up unsuccessful. This year I gambles on my WY sheep tag and had 1:8 odds. Great odds, just no luck.
Quite a few years ago I researched and found a short range weapon moose hunt. Think the odds were like 1:3. Put myself, friend, and daughter in separately for three years and none of us drew. That third year a great moose was taken, and advertised. Odds went through the roof. Was so sure one of us would get a tag I even purchased, set up, and practiced with slug guns. ?

For Wyoming residents, most things are still either random or over the counter. So I have drawn plenty of those. Years ago, everything was random. I drew a moose license like that.

That's it. No New Mexico tags, never a Utah license (19 years), never anything in Idaho. I've drawn 5-6 deer licenses in Nevada, but had points for all. I have applied at the Expo off and on since its inception. Nothing there. Tons of banquets and raffles. Five decades and counting. I've never won anything but a wall hanging at a bingo game when I was in junior high.

So I am due. But nothing in Utah again this year.

To answer this question now, just need to wait for the draw stats to see if I pulled a max-point "random" or was just the max point holder.

Life is GREAT - Just added a 2023 Colorado Unit 16 Bull Moose tag - AND this is also part of the S73 Bighorn Ram tag that I drew this year.

I love it the odds start catching up!!!!
That's just Wrong!
But good for you.
We will expect a blow by blow account.

It is going to be an awesome Sept/Early Oct. A good part of both units overlap so I can scout for both at the same time. and hunt both at the sametime, depending on the weapon for the bull tag. I will try and put a story or something as I always enjoy reading some of the other members and looking at there pictures. I am so thankful for the opportunity and being available to do both hunts.

Curious when do the odds start catching up? Haha since I’m a decade deep plus into multiple states and like I have previously mentioned only drawn one random tag in my life thus far which was a tule cow elk hunt so not that exciting. Hoping to stay the course and one day be like the many on here that have drawn some amazing tags.

Two randoms in a lifetime of Multiple Western states every year. Nevada deer with no points in 1997. Idaho archery 18 bull in 2018 . 33 yrs of this Horse pukkey.Lots of other tags. All with max point value or OTC. This year looks the same.

Have to say that it feels pretty frikin nice to defy the odds with a moose tag in my pocket for this season... just keep applying!!!

Brad - hopefully soon they start catching up soon. In Colorado - you need to have the 3 weighted points to be in the hunt for sheep/goat/moose. Just make sure you get in the pool for these tags and then decide if you want to buy the additional points.

Of my group of around 10 applicants for these tags (basically 5 fathers and there children). The "kids" (they are all 25+ in age now) and each should have at 8-15 weighted points.

Collectively this group has received the following including this years draw:
3 bull moose tags and 1 cow tag.
The 1st bull tag drawn was around 12 years ago and he killed a stunning bull slightly over 50". The 2nd bull tag was a turned in tag that was awarded and was an absolute bust the year following the Troublesome Fire - He hunted the whole rifle season and never found a bull over 40". My son got impatient and put in for a cow tag that year and had short successful hunt. He will be back in the weighted pool after 1 more year and I am sure he will hold out for bull tag at his age now.
Hopefully I will shoot a big old bull this year.
The adults had been putting in since they started this stuff, and kids as soon as they became 12years old. I am sure this group has 100+ weighted points in each draw year, now that I am out.

Mountain Goat-
None of us have ever drawn a goat tag - At least 150 weighted points are going into every draw year now. I think one guy might not be putting in.

Sheep-
This group has at least 140 weighted points. We have had 3 ram tags including my tag this year. Both of the other rams my buddy and killed were studs - mid 170's heavy horned.

Not sure what I am really saying other than I would continue to put into a weighted point system or apply in hunts that have a true lottery format - which I know are not that many.

About 10 years ago I left a bunch of points on the board and dropped out of the Utah draws and quit applying in Wyo for Sheep/Moose and then quit on Arizona Sheep as I was sure I was going to get one the coveted early rifle elk tags. Now 10 years later in Arizona I am still yet to draw the tag with 27 NR points and am trapped and have to continue to buy a General Hunting tag to get a point in the draw. I will draw the tag in the next couple of years, but if factor in the amount of money I have already spent trying to get this tag that it will be bittersweet when I finally draw the tag.

I personally never thought I would draw a bull moose tag, let alone another Ram tag and there is no way I would have if it wasn't for the weighted tag lottery system that so many of us hate or my case maybe ,I love it now!
