Colorado Results Email

21 is still a good hunt, and if you take the time and look in the right places, a really nice buck is easily do-able. 22 is worthless right now. Hunted it a few years back and it was garbage.

That's what I've heard. Sad to hear. 22 was my first mule deer hunt ever and had a blast passing up bucks each day. Sucks they lost access to some of the best spots.

Yessir. Bucks are far and few between, and the ones rhat are there now are not what they used to be. Still that wondering unicorn to be found, but not like it was for sure.

The big unsuccessful for me. And I doubt there will be many turned back in this year. Maybe I’ll get lucky and find a unit 44 3rd season buck tag on the list in August.?

Drew Unit 21 2nd season tag finally. Good Luck today. Looks like the day for deer results at least.

I am Being serious when I say are you sure you want to hunt in 21 this year??. I would suggest you do some follow up investigation. From what I have heard about winter kill of deer in the NW units, I wouldn’t want a tag up there. Especially if I spent a lot of points.

21 deer herd actually did very well this last winter considering the circumstances. It was a hard winter but there was enough fall moisture in 21, the sage brush was very healthy going into the winter. We saw a lot of deer this Spring headed back up to the mountains. It isn’t what it used to be but it is still an okay hunt.

got an email saying that the state of colorado was unsuccessful. That one gave me a good laugh. Then I read it further and realized they were unsuccessful in charging my card for my two kids who drew fourth season deer tags. I didn't have the money to apply myself this year for non res deer but the kids are cheap enough that I could afford that.

finally got funds figured out this morning and got my 2 daughters their deer tags paid for. Now I hope I can find them some good bucks over thanksgiving.

Shhhhh, just let them keep thinking everything died. Lol. I've decided to just let people think what they think at this point.

Everything died guys will be 10 years to build it back up No need to burn all those points in the nw corner look elsewhere it will be better.

I hunted that tag a few years ago fun hunt pm me if you need any pointers on it I’ll be there second season this year with an elk tag.
Thanks for the offer. I'm always willing to except info. My brother has hunted this unit for elk over the last 10 yrs. and has a basic idea?
Same here, i'll be there with an elk tag, hit me up.
Thanks also for the offer, as I will except all info I think maybe my brother knows most of the country?

3 buddies drew their 3rd season 44 buck tags although 1 has never gotten an email, just looked at the CPW site! My CC was hit for elk elsewhere but not sure if it's 1st or 2nd choice so I'll hafta wait it out till it's posted!!!

Just to understand the system, under "My Pref. pts.", for Elk mine says "import deduct points - # of pts I had" and it shows I have zero pts. Not sure if that just means they applied my points to the draw, or it actually used my points. It it used my pts. then I drew 1st choice. I didn't use points for any other draws so nothing to compare it to. Anyone know? Since this is between when they drew for tags but haven't posted to the "Draws" category yet, it's kind of limboland. Guess I'll find out for sure when it's officially listed as "Accepted" rather than the current "Entered" status on the "Draws" category. Think I'll now go pull weeds or do something productive!

22 used to be great in ‘60s & ‘50’s. Not anymore. Unlimited OTC licenses for years did it huge
damage, then the winter of ‘72-‘73, the winter from hell, killed most of the deer ! Took CPW 30 years to recognize most of the deer were gone- dead ?! Never coming back like before.

My son drew 3rd season Unit 21. Pretty fired up to do a new kind of hunt, never hunted a real migration situation. Was curious about roads out there. I have an F250 and will have chains. How many of the roads really need something different like a side by side?

And does anyone know who might rent a side by side? I have found Gianinetti's in Meeker, not much else. Thanks

There are a couple places in Vernal that rent machines, you may have better luck there.

I had a later season tag in the season in 21 years ago and while the main roads are ok for a truck we took our ATV's and we were very glad we did. If it's at all wet you will need chains on the truck to get around. We had some weather and some roads got very nasty, I would not go into that hunt with just your truck. Third season can also get cold so a covered side by side would be ideal.

OK, thansk. Yeah, I talked with a BLM friend who lived in Rangely and worked 21 until 10 yrs ago, now live in Fruita and works 30. He said he thought a lot of the roads in 21 had not been maintained and have washed out in many places over the years. Well, time to round up a machine!
