Wondering if anyone here has hunted this unit before and can offer up any advice or suggestions. The hunt is 10/28-11/5 and I believe about 185 tags. Haven't decided if will camp or rent a room at this point. I expect a lot of pressure in the easy-to-reach areas so planning to get off the road. Thanks in advance.

Tough to get any decent tags anywhere this year- I’m zero thus far in 4 states.
66 is a very good area if the weather co operates with snow & cold. I didn’t do well last time- hot weather & no snow or cold. Best areas I found was around Powder Horn & or south of the Resvr on north side of unit. Watch out there-lots of private land but good deer numbers- get a good map. I stayed in Gunnison- it gets really cold most nights ?. Best of luck ?! Congratulations on pulling that tag- great area ! ?

I hunted it in 3rd season last year , had a great time but after spending the entire season daylight to dark I never saw a buck over 170. probably 165 actually. don't let the cheer leaders tell you a 180 buck is a reasonable goal because it's not, possible yes but not likely.

Now that that's out of the way, it's a fun hunt in some amazing deer habitat. you will see plenty of deer , but decide early if you're after a monster because tag soup is a very real possibility if you are. and there's nothing wrong with that.

We stayed at the Tomichi Creek Inn and I highly recommend it. when my wife draws we'll be back. if you have any questions PM me I learned just enough about it to be dangerous.
