Wyoming draw?

I’m hoping it won’t take that long for the herds to recover. I’m thinking 3 years but I can’t wait that long maybe 2 I’ll start putting back in. I just want to burn all of my points before they increase the general tags to $600.

Just building points here. I did apply my son and I for doe antelope tags in an area that wasn't hit hard by snow. I will let him shoot one but I probably won't unless the herds look better than I think they will. Still can't believe they are under $50 with the application fee for a non-res.

I really wanted to apply but I too passed since I have 3 pretty major hunts that will take some serious time.

2 sheep and 1 elk and none of them are mine. Looks like a guide kind of a year for me except for muzzleloader deer with one of my grandsons.

We applied for everything we could. Hope we pull some, being a resident there is really no down side to applying. If we draw anything then we will hunt hard and find the most mature animals we can before deciding to shoot.

I hope we have a pile of tags to hunt and we find 2-3 animals worthy of a tag. But if not we at least treed. Not enough years left for me to pass up any opportunities to be in the field with my family.

I stayed out of the draw and will just accumulate points, I will sit out the next few years in hopes of things getting better.

As a nonresident, I put in joint with my dad for deer. My dad has max points and I have 3 (I drew a couple of years ago). Our main reason for dumping points this year is that my dad will be 81 next month and his health is declining fast. If we draw, I'm not certain I'll be able to even get him out hunting at all. I'm hopeful he could get out for at least a day or 2. We shall see.

I thought long and hard about using 5 points for H, especially since CO didn't pan out for me. In the end I stuck with my plan and tried for a different hunt.

With the tag cuts in H I doubt 5 will get a tag. Good luck in the draws!

? you get a tag!
I should as I put in with Max Points , wanna bring some salmon, looking for a camp cook. I hear you are pretty good behind the glass as a bonus . Hope you get the tags you're looking for SS. Blessings

We passed on Wyoming deer and elk this year but put my son in alone for antelope. Kinda in that middle ground points wise so I’ll gather some more I guess ! Used to be able to draw my old stomping ground on second choice…… but not in todays world !!!

I applied my wife, my 12 year old boy and myself for 8 hard to draw tags. Elk x 3, deer x 3, antelope x 2. Then a few other doe tags that will get thrown away if we draw them.
Love to draw 1-2 really good tags. If not...General elk will get our attention.

Unfortunately, I had to burn my Wyoming NR PP's this year due to moving to the state this Spring. I'll be a resident next year, so NR points won't do me much good. Due to my situation and the severe winter, I had to change my choices on my application. I had 17 points for Deer and 13 points for Antelope to use and hopefully draw my first choice, but with the situation this year, last year's draw odds really can't give an accurate picture of what this year will bring.

The unit I applied for could be drawn with less than 12 points according to historical data, but I'll find out in a couple weeks, I guess!

It's always been tough but it certainly won't help. but they were going to cut the tags anyway to try to bring the age structure up a little. hopefully enough guys think it's going to suck and backed out to keep the odds about where they've been is what I'm hoping.

Five less NR tags this year in 128. That's going to make it a tough draw for sure.

Good luck!
Yep. Regular should get 6 (vs 9 last year) tags and special 4 (vs 6 last year) tags. I'm not sure if they round on the max points or random tags, but should leave 4-5 regular and 3 special tags to top points. Random gets 1-2 regular and 1 special. No way applicants will drop enough to make up for that. Also, that will slow clearing of the 128 holdout top pool.

Even in the special draw I'm betting the draw odds are around 15%. Not a slam dunk by any means.
Might not be a slam dunk with max points. But if drawn you will have a great hunt. We still always put in for a random tag. ????

That in itself will help clear the pool . if the draw odds get bad enough guys will apply somewhere else, I've hunted 128 twice and it's probably my favorite hunt I've ever done. but in reality it's not worth the points it takes now and it's certainly not worth another 20 years of trying. but I will.

The tag cuts will only make it better for those who do draw so it's all good.

It's not worth it...But you are going to do it??? What is the better option for a low pressure rut hunt in Wyoming? Good luck in the draw ?!

Maybe not any areas better for a rut hunt but one comes to mind that's probably just as good and several that aren't rut hunts that are better then it was last year as far as quality goes

I put in and drew a late elk tag this year...a hunting buddy and I had 14 points last year. We had planned buying another point due to some health issues he was experiencing and month after the draw deadline in February he unexpectedly took his own life. I decided to buy points again last fall and to just use my elk points this year and go alone. I'm @ 20 pts for deer in AZ and applied for a Kaibab tag this year I'll buy sheep and deer points again this fall and my wife and I another antelope pt in WY.
I don't want to spoil this thread, I'm much more conscious of mental health issues than ever before. This guy was married 40 yrs, no kids and was worth a cajillion dollars, he had just closed on a 1000 acre ranch in S Texas. We hunted and fished together the last 30 yrs.
It's brought home the whole idea of that we never really know about someone we are really close to until you stand in their moccasins.
Good luck to each of you this coming fall and make those memories count.

All the more reason to hunt when you can as often as you can with those you care about. Good luck in the draws. Hope you and your wife have some great hunts ahead of you.

Yes and always be aware of mental health...

I wonder if that one could be related to the 128 buck I got. Really fun hunt, first year of points. The points did not help me draw and I'm at (max-1). As much as I would like 128 again, I applied to draw something I probably can draw this year.

The quality isn't worth the points. the experience is.
I hunted 8 or 9 days in 128 last year with a buddy. It was fun seeing a lot of deer, but quality was ho-hum. As far as the experience, lots of hunters everywhere. The hard to hunt places are no longer a secret, so luck plays a lot in your success. The scenery is eye pleasing, but that can be found in many places.

Good luck to those in the draw!

I applied for my regular deer & pronghorn units, because I only have 3 or 4 points and apply for mid-tier units in the random. I have a WY gen elk tag so I'll be out there for either of these if I get lucky. Either would make for easy combo hunts. So nothing much to lose.

Our family passed on deer and antelope in WY this year since we have three elk tags already that will be taking up our vacation time including a late migration hunt up by Cody (my oldest son drew with max points). He also has max deer points so may burn them next year depending on how the 2024 draws go before next year's application deadline.

Does anyone remember if they posted the draw results 2 days early last year?

I know NR elk has been posted 2 days ahead of schedule for the last two years.

I got the email last year for draw results from the WGFD on June 14th. But I don't remember if that was early or not?

Good luck to everyone that put in. I didn't draw in NV, CO or Utah, so I decided to try to burn my 5 antelope points on a unit that did not get tags cut. The price increase for special is too much for me next year, I hope I draw or I will have to wait 4 more years to draw on the regular. I am not rich enough to pay $1,200 for an antelope tag, but I would if I could. Will be interesting to see what the future holds. Best of luck all. Winter kill scared me from using my 16 deer points.

Good luck on your antelope tag, I’m hoping a bunch of residents felt the same about deer but not holding my breath , but can’t win if not in !!

I tried to talk myself out of it, then I tried to talk myself of the area I wanted. Wasn’t easy but I made a game time decision and stuck with plan A….nothing else I’ll have a damn good excuse if I come up short

I appreciate your logic at this point in my career.

We put in for WY Deer.

I'm tired of the point creep and it'll probably double when/if they go to the 90/10 split. Combined with the fact they last almost all fawns from last year, and I've heard they lost a large portion of the does this year from the recent winter kill. Which means most of this years fawns were probably aborted. If this is the case then there's almost two full years with no fawns. I don't see the hear "bouncing back" soon. I hope I'm wrong.

Good luck to all that applied.

90/10 won't happen anytime soon. Buzz and his buddies should be here soon to say I'm wrong.

No I'm not from Wyoming, yes I understand why the Res want 90/10, I would too most likely. The problem is WYOGA doesn't care what R or NR want.

Once they increased price for NR it made it harder to go to 90/10 IMO.

Made it easier to go to 90/10 they just setup the increase in revenue for it

This gives them an excuse to say, well we would have to up the resident price too much so we're not going to do it. Even though most residents would be willing to pay, that's what they are going to stand on in my opinion.

I’m curious how this will all play out next couple of years. Will they cut more tags next year? Will the winter kill be so bad that most hunter will just stop putting in? Or this opportunity for those that don’t have enough points to apply for units that are high demand? Will the Wyoming sit on the 90/10 for general tags for a couple of years? Will WYOMING increase tags to off set tag reduction?

I don't think applications will change. Hunt quality maybe but applications will stay roughly the same it not maybe go up a little.

As long as all the tag pimps are constantly pushing apply apply apply there will be plenty of people that do.
