What hunts did you put in for? pc

There's for sure two other, and possibly 4, new DBHS units that they could open that could easily be hunted each year. The Nopah Range and the Castle and Piute Mountains could easily have a couple of tags each.
I agree with you ! And wish I could have a helping hand in getting these units into the draw system for more opportunities. Instead of letting sheep just die of old age

I hope you pull them. I believ you stand a very good chance of getting the G37. Saw a picture of a monster taken from there this past season. I do wonder what the winter did to some of the large migrating herds. I know it had to affect them some how. A lot of deer wont get back to their normal summer ranges for a long time plus it's going to take longer for food to grow. What made you go G37 vs some of the other premium zones? Wish nothing but the best for you on the draws.

Regards

I had g37 last year. It was a good year for it. I got a good buck. I saw pictures of two really good one's taken. I saw a really nice buck, but never could get on him for a shot.

Just going with what gohunt says. 5 draws probably bumps that up. I am not pulling out my stats book from 79'. Ha
After too many calls. Yes, the Whites will kick your arse. 1 poor soul drew last year and died prescouting. 2 other diy guys gave up. So, drop 9k with tip, die, or not punch your tag. Sleeping at 12k feet will get you once you get to 12k. Now I get why so few put in for the Whites. And inyo nf, Can close the unit at will for fire danger. Need to rethink my 38th sheep draw.

CA doesn't have an online way to change choices you rethink. To change your CA choices already submitted, you can can call or email the license and revenue branch at [email protected], before the deadline. You need to put your information and hunter ID # and tell them what your current choices are and what you want them to be. I have done it before.

Blanked in Nevada since moving here in 2021 except for the FCFS Elk that first year. Grew up hunting D16(raised in Julian) so figured I'd start collecting non-resident points here and maybe get lucky with a random before I am 6ft under!!!

X12 Deer, Z3 Bighorn, Lassen Pronghorn, Northeastern Elk

Short of being shot by a jealous husband after your 100th birthday (the way my grandfather said he wanted to go), a massive heart attack on a desert sheep bighorn seems like a spectacular way to go! Sure would beat slowly dying in resthome like he did!

Would you please post some pictures of your buck and the others.
Thanks
Bill
This is the best buck that I heard about getting taken on g37.

I'm confident that I'll draw a White Mountains Sheep tag with max points. I'm in my 60's now and am ok with a heart attack on a sheep hunt. Since I'll draw the sheep tag and don't want a high stress deer tag, I'll do Goodale with max points, really going for my second choice A31. My antelope and elk choices don't really matter as I'm in the have not pools for them.

I can only think of one better way to go then on a hunt.

I was in loreto,mx. Fishing with a buddie 30 years ago, he starts making out with a hottie till he reached down and grab a handful of the wrong parts. So yes, enough tequila could do it.

Definitely waiting for more results to come out. I missed out on my NM 75% chance tag. But for elk the new Tehachapi hunt is a must apply. Massive bulls.
Trespass fees will likely be pushing $20k for that hunt. There will be some pissed off people that draw that tag without realizing how expense it will be or can’t even find private property to hunt.

I have secured land for not much. There are land owners who hate the elk and the damage they do. He has photos of a collared bull over 380 that thrashed his back yard last fall. Some people will charge a fortune, but the market will sort them out. Just need to knock on doors. Also the farthest north herd is on public.

Good luck in the draw. post some pictures when you smash one.

I am just going to wait for my Newberry Sheep tag and/or Goodale next week. Already received my Newberry maps and have been studying them. Nothing like putting the cart before the horse. But you need to be optimistic in this hobby. ???
Sounds like I will absolutely see you on the Goodale hunt, unless I die of a heart attack in the White Mountains. They don't look intimidating at all on the maps I have been looking over. ??

I got a real education on the whites last week. Doing the JMT is a walk in the park vs. That hunt, goodluck.

You definitely need to be optimistic and someone is going to draw those tags so why not you.

I have been wanting to scout the White before I put in for it. Think this summer might be the time to try. If I go and see anything I will let you know.

In all honesty, if you counted on hunting CA, applying for Goodale for the 22nd year of the ponzi scheme to get a 15% chance of drawing was a bad choice. At this point, I feel locked into trying.

Sheep is something most will not draw. I would be ok not filling a tag on the Whites, as I would think I probably will not draw a tag with 3 times worse draw odds before I get too old anyway.

Agreed on the ponzi scheme. By the looks of thing, most people who have max point for sheep now are probably going to die with max points. Unless they open up more are and tags.

Just applied as a N/R for the first time. We moved out of CA in April to Montana. I have 21 N/R deer points to use. Who would have thought I would apply for deer in CA as a N/R. 1 last try for G3 then its off to 1 of the late season muzzleloader tags for 2024.

I hope all you guys get your premium draws. Since I drew G3 last year I put in for my wonderful D7. Will probably get tag soup in the end. Doesn't tast worth a **** either. PP for elk and antelope. Max points. On another note it's good to know you can carry preference points when you leave the state. The Laws couple that I met on my G3 hunt last year move to Washington a while back and the wife drew the tag last year. My buddy is moving to Idaho and carries max preference points for deer and elk.

Pretty much everyone I know who drew Goodale said the meat off those rutting bucks is pretty tough and stinky.

Those are the deer you give to the field workers.....all except for the tenderloins and backstraps.

We'd go out in the fields and kill hogs at night (depredation permit in hand) then take them into the cooler to give to the workers. They appreciated all the wild game they could get their hands on.

Same with elk if your holding out for a Tule. I’m one off max and 36, I’m hoping to draw by 70 ?.

Brad,

Here's a new table I created, which paints an even worse picture than what I had before. Previously I was using 27 tags as the annual tag numbers, but this didn't take into account that 8 of them went to less than max point applicants in 2022 (and previous years) and also the new reduction in tags for the Marble/Clippers for 2023. Based on this I revised my numbers and use 15 tags per year going to the max point applicants. This could be an over estimate if we keep having disease events, but could also be low if CDFW finally opens the other four sheep units that have enough sheep to hunt.

I'd love to see your spreadsheet and even jump on the phone to discuss as I may be looking at these data in the wrong way and maybe your accounting shows a much better scenario!!

Nice work, too bad you don't have the demographics of the max point hunters. My guess is that many of these max point holders will age and drop out at an accelerated rate going forward. I would take that bet anyway, but only time will tell. Thanks for tracking this.

BTW - my son drew with less than max points 10 years ago, so I think he burned up the family luck....

Nice bull. Hoping to put a Tule down this year too.

Drove by San Luis about 3 weeks ago, never seen it so full. Needless to say, seen quite a few elk just driving past.

100 deer? just curious on how that is possible...not doubting .....just wondering....
I have the best wisconsin whitetail property in the #3 book entry County on the planet. #2,1 are also wisconsin. We kill 35 doe/year for herd control.unlimited doe tags. I have multiple 3 kill sits with a bow. I have killed at least 200 deer on my farm. Get it? here is 20 inside 200 yards in 1 sit. Either take them out our you have zero natural regen of hardwoods.

Yes.....I get it when it comes to whitetails. You share your gun with clients. Good population of deer....makes sense.

Why did you create a new profile? Have a few more drinks and post more pictures of your doofy car...

No clients, family only. We have killed 600 deer the last 15 years. I spent 48 years creating a whitetail paradise. Planted 12,000 Norway spruce by hand, 7 waterhole, road visual blocks, 70 bowstands, 12 gun towers.

Window has closed, gòodluck to all. I did lope bow, a9 bow, Whitney tule, the Whites, max pts. Feel great about a9. We shall see.

I'm not wishing more than four other max points holders applying for the White Mountains sheep hunt luck. Not that my wishes have any effect on random number assignment... But that's just the way I roll.

I wonder where the nearly 300 max point holders for the Marble mountains will switch to?

I think it will be worse draw odds on all sheep hunts because of the tag reductions.

Last year my odds were 4.32%. my wife and I at 62 did the JMT, Whitney Summit. I would have no problem sheep hunting the whites. But only 50% harvest last year, my guess is 3 guys couldnt handle the physicality. Also, except for deer in ca. If you don't have max pts. It's the same as having 0 pts. And 700 guys are 1 pt. Behind max for sheep. They have no chance of being max.
I heard that one of the tag holders died on the mountain while scouting. The other two unsuccessful tag holders, probably either were ill prepared, or uneducated on how and where to hunt the rams in that unit.

I have been wanting to scout the White before I put in for it. Think this summer might be the time to try. If I go and see anything I will let you know.
Smart. Brother and I have scouted the whites numerous times always learning new things in anticipation of drawing that tag someday. This year that is all going to pay off… One of my best friends, drew and we will be helping him fulfill his dream. Maybe next year it’ll be somebody else’s term that we know… Or, maybe ours. Putting it in the work and gaining the knowledge necessary to be successful PRIOR to applying/drawing any desired premium tag should always be the goal. Even if you don’t ever draw, somebody, you know might…. Or, at the very least, you get to spend some quality time in some incredible country.
