Taker or No? How wide and what does he score?

Let's say you stroll over the hilltop and glass him in the aspens below. You don't have all day like everyone always wants. He's giving you a few angles. How wide is he? What about a score???
Is he a taker in a unit you waited 10 years to draw on day 5 of a 9 day hunt? You scouted nothing bigger and you don't have a team of family or guides helping, it's just you.
Could you even hit him with your rifle at 300 yards? ha ha :)

I’m flinging lead I’ll probably miss since I’m not a rifle hunter. But, until I can pony up the money to hunt one of mexico’s finest high fence “estate bucks,” while in my hey dudes, a pair of shorts and smedium to show off my biceps with Utah’s most wanted, pounding my chest for an SCI record, he’ll definitely do.😎 I’m thinking he’s 190 ish. But I wouldn’t care the score that’s a bad ass deer. The way he flares out does it for me. Also seeing most 10 pt draw units won’t get you a buck close to that in Utah that ensures even more reason to shoot him.

Nice buck, fair mass, shallow forks so I don't think he'll score super high but I like width so I'm shooting..and 300 yards is no problem most days lol

Definitely a shooter for me, and he’s just an all around great looking buck. I’d say he’s a solid 180 and has to pushing close to 30” wide.

I would like to say thirty, but judging from behind is a sure way to experience big time ground shrink.
I agree. I always told myself to never make the mistake again and judge a buck only by the back view. But he did turn his head briefly and that looked pretty decent. I'm guessing 30" and about 178-182. HUGE body so could be off by a few inches. Without having anything bigger scouted out and depending on how many other deer I was seeing, I would probably take the shot.

Hard to judge width when they’re facing away with the ears pinned back but just looking in comparison to his body, I believe he’ll break 30. Big body, I think I’d name him “sturdy”.

He looks wide, but it’s hard to tell with his ears back. From the side his forks aren’t special. With that being said, if I had him in my scope I’m probably shooting because I can’t help myself.

Would be my biggest buck to date for sure, looks like a giant body, back forks aren’t all that great but front forks are good, extra inline on the left, and he would be the widest buck by a big margin, I’m setting up to shoot, I would guess him 187 and I’d go 31 wide. 300 yards with light winds off a pack should be a done deal…

I am shooting

pretty nice buck right there. general season, Vernon, Book cliffs, general season Muzz I am shooting. Henries, Pauns, Oak creek, I think i would pass.

I can't imagine anyone not shooting that buck in a 10 point unit, unless they know of something bigger. As has been mentioned, looking from behind for width is a recipe for disappointment, but I'm with others that he is pushing 30 but maybe not quite there.
He's not real heavy but I also think 180 is not out of the question.
From my experience, bucks like that are not that common in this day and age and yes 300yds with a steady rest and little wind is very doable.

I am shooting with any tag but a Governor’s or AI tag.

Definitely 30” plus and 180 or better. I don’t need to see him from the front

I shoot and yes there was plenty of time to set up and kill him at 300. Not hung up on exact #’s, but he was big enough looking I’d not have hesitated.

Looks about 32"+ outside to me. Has a 3-4" extra on the end of left beam. Pretty dang solid buck. I think he scores better than most are giving him... 190+ frame. Most likely sending one.

Well, since we actually have numbers to go along with the rear view... just my gut feeling without running any "mental calculations"

28" outside spread
179" Gross

He is big enough for me on almost any tag. I would take the safety off and squeeze the trigger. Once I determine they are big enough, I don't care about score and don't take time to evaluate their score anymore.
I feel confident he is 30"+ and 180"+
If he is a big bodied buck from Colorado, Idaho or Western Wyoming I wouldn't be surprised if he is 32" and 190"+

300 yards should be a slam dunk shot for any experienced hunter that has 30 seconds to set up.

Man are all these guys new around here or what? ;)

Great video of that hunt Brian! Still awesome you found him in July and smacked him in rifle season.

Might post it up... surely there are others that don't remember the dead version or haven't seen it
I remember him killing this buck in 2016 in Colorado. He is awesome wide and a 4X5. Very, very few would pass on this buck!!!

I did go back and watched the whole video again and this buck is a stud.
