For those interested, meeting regarding the Columbus Peak land exchange.

WYBHA has tried to negotiate a compromise with no luck. Its headed to the Land Board for consideration. For those in the area, show up and share your thoughts.

The Columbus Peak Ranch Land Exchange is once again being considered by the Wyoming Office of State Lands and Investments. Please come out to the Sheridan County Fairgrounds on October 4, 2023 from 5:30 to 8:30 to attend and provide public feedback on this important public land issue for hunter and angler access.

For those of us without google skills, please give us the details.
Terrible land exchange.

The landowner wants the piece of state that has a reservoir with fish in it, much higher grade habitat in exchange for a piece that accessible via county road. The piece the state is going to acquire is mostly prairie dog habitat and its going to be developed for houses.

The appraisal is also going on 3 years old and the value of the property the State currently has is significantly higher than 3 years ago.

Its just a bad deal for the citizens of Wyoming, trading quality habitat that has elk, deer, pronghorn and a fishable reservoir for a piece that will be developed. Its a lose-lose for hunter and anglers.

Any update on how the meeting went? It sucks they do this right in the middle of hunting season.

I talked to a guy that went
Close to 200 people showed up. Only one guy supported this out of 200 people.

So if I understand him right goes to more important people to make a decision

I believe this was shot down today !
Down it went. Pete Kassab, one of the BHA co-chairs worked his tail off for 3 years on this.

Sort of odd because a certain Non Resident expert claims the Residents have no control over these types of things. Somebody is misinformed.

Sheridan County residents applauded state officials Thursday after they voted to reject a land swap near Dayton that would have put state-owned mountain-front acreage in private hands in exchange for a sagebrush prairie lot.

The Wyoming Board of Land Commissioners voted 3-1 in favor of Auditor Kristi Racines’ motion to reject the Columbus Peak Ranch exchange proposal. State Treasurer Curt Meier cast the lone vote in favor of the swap.

Secretary of State Chuck Gray and Superintendent of Public Instruction Megan Degenfelder joined Racines to kill the exchange as proposed. Gov. Mark Gordon, chairman of the board, did not vote. He did not offer an explanation, but rules allow him to abstain when there is not a tie vote among the other commission members.

Not a fan of Meagan but good for her. I do think she just wants more money though.
